Babylon Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 I think Ealing's point was more of the fact Ben Arfa looked nothing more than average in this country. Also agree with where you're coming from, mind. Newcastle have a very good habit of making everyone look average.
RoyFox Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Rest assured teams are going to camp out in their halves, we need players who can unlock defenses through the middle, just wing play won't cut it. At the moment only Mahrez can work his way into the box and create a scoring chance, Gray possibly can with time, Albrightons an out and out winger/crosser with great work rate, but average scoring ability. Schlupp is strong defensively and on the break, again without a fantastic end product. We need another playmaker - I reckon Ben Arfa, Sasha and possibly Musa are the current options. Ben Arfa is worth the risk simply because he'd start to get double teamed when in form, thus creating options for the others. *Sigurdsson another potential playmaker to add to that*
Richmondfox Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 I'm sure if Was tells him to sort himself out he will Seems like he has sorted himself out and let his football do the talking. Newcastle were paying his wage so he should of conducted himself better but then they should have worked with and managed their asset a lot better than they did rather than let him get out of shape and rot, creating ill feeling from all parties. I think last season he has proven he's talented and can perform. He would be a good addition for what will be a very busy year for the club.
LCFC FOX Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Love how Finnegan is foaming at the prospect of Joe Allen but Ben Arfa is a resounding no. Fvck me. Ben Arfa has flopped in this league. Allen has always done well just doesn't get much game time under Klopp. Allen would be a good signing for us
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 To be fair, Allen was part of a pretty shite midfield that finished 8th in one of the weakest Premier League seasons in history. Yeah he's tidy but let's not pretend he's much better than what we have. Mendy, DD and Kante would be ahead of him imo, he'd be about level with King in our set up. Neither here nor there about HBA.
foxes21 Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Unless we're planning of playing Ben Arfa at 10, I don't know where he'd fit in. We don't need 6 wingers.Ben Arfa played 14 games at CF last season, 18 in CAM. In that sense Ben Arfa's much like Musa, he could play RW, LW, 10 & CF. If he signs, I can see him competing for the number 10 & CF role.Mahrez/Albrighton/Brady/Gray/Schlupp & Vardy/Deeney or Slimani/Ben Arfa/Okazaki Would give us very strong options in all attacking areas. Wouldn't be much room for Leo though & he has too much of a big smile to leave .

With that in mind I'd be happy with him as being an option in those areas.
foxes21 Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 in fairness though, he only got 3 goals/2 assists at CF last season.. But at CAM he got 14 goals/4 assists. maybe against the teams that sit back, a target man like Deeney/Slimani will be more useful as the main striker, as there will be literally no space for Vardy. Then with ben Arfa in the 10 role, he can create the play from deep. Whatever Ben Arfa's role will be, he'd be a tidy addition.
RedSoxUK Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 I think he's a player driven by legacy, so playing Champions League football would be, and i'm sure will be the selling point to get him to sign if these sources are true. I would be worried about his time towards the end of his Newcastle and Hull days, it speaks a lot about a players commitment; though i'm sure we don't know all the details. His time at Nice last season is more of a peak in talent, and I think that's why so many big name clubs are looking at him especially as he's on a free, in his peak. Wouldn't be too quick to dismiss his season at Nice, he's clearly a very talented flair player that can operate in no space; and seemed to link up with Mendy well based on some of the Nice vids i've glanced over. No expert on HBA or Nice, but like Arsenal, RM, and everyone else are willing to spend in excess of £25m, and only that fee because of a clause on our players for an exceptional season, Nice too have had a very good season in France with HBA being the standout. This stinks of Leicester to me, he would be a fantastic capture in my opinion; Okazaki role / extra wide playmaker on a free without having to worry too much. I'm sure his wage demands will be high, but based on his last season we should run with it. He definitely should be in the France squad, to be the standout French attacker in the French leagues and be snubbed for someone like Gignac would only fuel HBA's desire to become something great in his remaining years.

foxes21 Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 In all fairness I think brady has been signed for competition at left back. To be honest I hope he isn't being signed for LB, he's too attack minded like Schlupp!!
MikeyT Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 What to believe?! Spanish paper AS claim that Hatem Ben Arfa will join PSG after rejecting Sevilla.
Mezeker Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 everyone see this article yet? Can't check prior posts atm. http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/leicester-city-transfer-rumour-ben-arfa/story-29456802-detail/story.html
ousefox Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Newcastle fan I'm mates with says that he's the best player he's ever seen at the club.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 I always remember that particular run he did for Newcastle, travelled along way through the field as I recall and just slotted it in the net. Having just tried to search this goal, I found another one which was even better!
TJB-fox Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Be an interesting signing if we do get him but won't be overly gutted if we miss out. Can't blame him for going psg really
Fox 4 Life Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Was hoping we could wrap this up. at the people saying he wasn't good enough and he signs for PSG
BlueTillIDie Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 No No No & NO! Talented but far too much baggage and we don't want any big time charlies upsetting the team spirit here.
Mezeker Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Was hoping we could wrap this up. at the people saying he wasn't good enough and he signs for PSG yea l'equipe reporting it too, was really hoping we could get him in.
Number 6 Posted 30 June 2016 Posted 30 June 2016 His talent was never in question was it? Surely temperament was most people's concern.
