Adapted from what to what buddy ??

Over-rated to over-rated and useless ?

for me he is as mild as it gets. he is like muller of the midfield. except mueller have charisma and he is not a 20 year old overrated spurs player. the fact that he got "young player of the year" ahead of kane is stupid (even tho i also think kane is flavorless. it must be a spurs thing)

i think dele alli is just a shortened name. his name (IIRC) was to long and different so he shortened it. i am not 100% sure but i think i heard this somewhere

Some right presumptuous tools in this thread. Clearly didn't read the article, he gave a perfectly good reason for his choice.

It's not his choice, it's his timing and how he's compensated fans that's the issue. He's declared on the eve of the new season and rather than offer to refund the fans who have Alli shirts (as others like Tyrone Mings when he changed number at Ipswich have in the past) he's offered to sign them. Still leaving people with a shirt with the wrong name on that cost nearly £60, and the prospect of maybe spending that again to get the right shirt.

Also if you have no connection to a surname, there's the option, at 18 to change in without a parent being able to stop you. Just like I did. So if he really had no connection to the name Alli, he's free to change to Hickford, it'd costs very little.

Let's be honest, the folks with Alli on the back aren't suddenly gonna be asked 'who the **** is that' and be ridiculed are they. The commentators are still calling him Dele Alli anyway.

Yeah but I imagine anyone who has a player name and number on the back of their shirt is either a child who will bug their parents until they get them one that matches their hero or their an adult who's sad enough to care it's not the same.

A kid that meets his hero and gets his shirt signed by him is gonna be pretty happy I would say.

I don't remember this uproar when Gamst Pedersen changed to just Gamst!

Same as Depay having Memphis on his back. His father left when he was young and doesnt want his name on his shirt. Dont see the problem.

Annoyed me that Hernandez was allowed 'little pea' on his back.

He never said he'd meet them.

And did mgp do it on the eve of the season when hundreds or maybe thousands had already bought the shirt?

Honestly don't see why anyone cares. The reality is he probably never really identified withit, but as a young kid coming through you're probably going to want to get on with your football rather than asking if you can have a different name on your shirt.

Now he's a bit more established, he's in a position to make that request. I think his gesture more than makes up for any issues people have. If it hasn't affected you directly, you really shouldn't care at all.

amazing what people get their knickers in a twist over. it's his name. it's his choice. let him do what he wants lol .

If you're getting offended by this I feel very sorry for you.

I'm not annoyed he's changed it, I legally changed my own name years ago, I know to some degree where he's coming from. I'm just annoyed fans will have bought Alli shirts and he's not offered to compensate them as others on the past have in similar situations. And he's left it really late to announce it, giving fans the longest possible time to buy Alli shirts. I imagine anyone sad enough to get a players name on their shirt must really care it's right, so offering to sign the shirt isn't much compensation.

Although it's Spurs fans so who really cares if they get ripped off lol But I do think it's a poor offer from Alli.

Who is offended lol

the post was about a talented young man and his obvious demons on and off the field and the discussion was really to be about if those demons at going to hold him back and limit his potential being realised.

I'm not sure anyone is offended by it , not sure what that's all about

I discuss the news of the day everyday with Mrs Gaelic and who ever crosses my path , people have opinions and they express them , offence generally isn't what someone can feel with something that isn't personal.

Just saying

I better watch out or I'll be getting a week on sidelines again for doing nothing wrong  lol

okay. forget about the offence then.

But he's made his decision yet people seem to be in a bit of uproar about it lol . I'm sure he thought a long time about it and has finally made the decision.

Didn't a Derby right back have TY on his shirt a couple of seasons ago? Pretty cheap name to purchase though, I remember spending a bomb on Wesolowski 30 or 20 whatever it was, when I was younger.

I don't get why people say 'overrated' all the time now. Why is he overrated? He had a superb PL season last season and was one of Spurs' better players in a great season for them. Wasn't good at the European Championships but then again who was for England.

If he was a Leicester player you'd be all over him. I don't like Alli but he isn't overrated.

It's a real pet peeve of mine when players don't have their surname on their shirts

whats with all this first name malarkey or even worse when players have nicknames on their shirts

should be no if and buts or stamping of feet like a toddler, your registered surname should be on the back of the shirt

for him to change it now is just astonishing stating the name alli means "nothing" to him

How can it mean nothing You have had that name for 20 years, for a name that means nothing to him it's plastered all over his social media

The proper kick in the teeth will be for the people wanting the new shirts signed is that unless he's going to change it His signature even has alli in it

its just ridiculous egotistical attention seeking

If you rage at nicknames on shirts the Brazilian nation side must give you a right rage on
