AS78UK Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 Ok, curve ball but could Schlupp play the Kante role. Can drive forward with the ball, can tackle ( a little). Only concern is can he read the game well enough.

Numbers wise we had the same as last season, actually more if Inler stays because James is back... and I don't remember people being desperate for one like they are this year. Drinkwater Mendy King Amartey James Inler Currently all on the books, we're going to need to shift one or two before we need more CM's. Inlers on his way
CockneyFox Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 There is a lot of pressure on Mendy - he's relocated from another country, probably doesn't speak much English, he's integrating into a new club, and most of all trying to make an impression in a title-winning side. He needs at least 10 games to prove himself; writing him off after 60 minutes is just insane.
linemakers Posted 22 August 2016 Author Posted 22 August 2016 5 hours ago, Babylon said: So, are we basically writing off Mendy and Amertey as not going to be good enough? Are we saying James will not be good enough, despite him always being quite a good player for us. Will a new guy get more than 50 minutes to show their capabilities? I get the worry that we've not replaced Kante, but it feels like people want to get someone else in case what we've got isn't good enough... despite them not actually being given a chance yet. I've got that worry as well don't get me wrong, but the club will look at assets like Amartey and say he's never going to get a chance if we bring someone else in ahead of him before he's even been here 8 months. If we don't have faith in them, then we need to get rid of some of them and bring ones in we do... as I'm not a fan of stock piling and not trying players. We only have two weeks to get a player in if Mendy is out for a while

Yet we've only 9 days left and are notoriously abysmal at getting players in as transfer windows draw to a close. Let's hope and pray Mendy isn't out for long. Ranieri seems very reluctant to try Amartey in midfield which leaves just Drinkwater and King, a player whom was last a proper starter in our team in the Championship several seasons ago. I like the lad but I can't form any comfort that he's good enough to be starting for us in the PL and Champions League.

For example at throw ins. Actually, the whole team seemed a bit shy at thow ins. No one seemed to be making themselves available, leading to immediate loss of possession. I know vaguely what you mean but in terms of wanting the ball we couldn't have signed someone who wants it more than Mendy it would seem.. 3rd most passes in Europe's top 5 leagues last year suggests he wants the ball and is comfortable on it. Think it'd be more down to instructions from Ranieri etc and staying in shape in a midfield 2, whereas in a diamond at Nice he would see a lot more of the ball at the base of that shape. I thought he looked fitter and more energetic on Saturday anyway. Really frustrating if he's out for any length of time as i'd love to see him get half a dozen games alongside Drinks as i'm sure he'll be a great player.

So when exactly have you seen him play in that position ? It's all subjective . From what I've seen of him I fully understand why he doesn't get any where near a starting slot . He looks lost and out of his depth on all occasions I've seen him play . If you really think he's a better option than King then you really need to study the game a bit more .

But he's just not good enough to be the regular partner for Drinkwater. He lacks energy and no longer has the legs to take on that role. He's not even a first choice for Wales!, and the same logic applies. Fantastic servant of this club. A valuable squad member. Yes... But that's where it ends. I'm interested to know what you think about Amartey as his replacement ? What do you think he can give that King can't ?

You Also need skill intelligence and the warewithall to be a star . I have seen so far nothing in Amartey's play to suggest any of those things . whereas King although not a top player can be relied on and knows how the team plays. If Amartey was good enough he would have pushed his way into the team already.

We need a quality signing in that area and fast! But respect your views.
yorkie1999 Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 Oliver Norwood, Rodrigues Araujo, Soriano Llido or Kamohelo Mokotjo, never heard of any of them except Norwood, but they've all got high defensive midfielder stats.

HighPeakFox Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 I think Shinji more likely in that role than Jeff, but both had occurred to me... Note to the judges.....Mendy has not even played a single complete league match for us yet. We need patience, all of us.

If you're going to play 3 then you need at least 5 to manage you through the amount of games we've got coming up. We currently have 3 fit central midfielders. Very, very worrying. We rival Arsenal in the amount of time it takes to get transfers sorted as well so with 9 days left we're baffling. This...
