Replacement for Mendy

Recommended Posts

Not good seeing Nampalys Mendy hobbling off and leaving stadium in protective boot yesterday. Think we need to get a replacement in (but more a kante style player) whilst he's injured. Any thoughts of who could do that job

More of just thoughts of who you think could replace him (if he is badly injured) as I don't think we have good enough cover at the moment. King had a good match yesterday but struggled against Hull and is not a DM

When he was coming off he was signing to the physios he heard a snap which can't be good sign, imo cm was the position we needed another face prior to his injury so it's even more important we get some1 in now

King played well yesterday. We looked better when he came on and he thrived when players with pace were making moves in front of him. The trope that he can't play with Danny is a cliché.

Let us wait and see what his injury is like before we panic,

Agreed, we could so with another central midfielder anyway but I'm sure the club is aware of that already. I don't think Mendy's injury, however long term it might be, changes things much.

Well, we were told that Mendy was brought in to play with Kante, not as a replacement for him,  in which case i would hope that we are already looking to bring someone in to replace Kante.

We needed another CM anyway, King isn't good enough. Amarty has been here long enough now but doesn't seem to get his chance in CM, James and Iner are both surpus to requirements which just leaves Drinky.

Hopefully amartey will get a chance next week. Still think he is a better partner for drinky than king.

I so want him to be but his first touch doesn't suggest so for me at the moment. In all honesty I don't know where he fits in the squad right now as in every position he can play in there's a preferred option he's a b team utility player right now. I hope to be proven wrong but I'm not seeing it right now from Amartey.

We so need to splash the CM cash.

Unnecessary? Regardless of Mendy's injury we are desperate for a CM!

Edit. I think we all agree we need another CM anyway.

See Hull.

Consistency is the key at this level...Danny was the best midfielder on both sides against hull, and he was certainly our best against Arsenal.

King just isn't good enough for a side looking to challenge towards the top of the table.

we need a CDM that is big. strong, can control the tempo of the game and has a great long pass in him. as good as danny is. he does nothing to hold the game by the scarf. his long passing is decent. but he takes alot of time to set up a long pass. and for a counter attacking team. that is a privilege we can not have. i saw at least 5 situations with mahrez literally  alone or with one defender at most and danny disade to play a short pass with marc and mandy/king and waisted a counter. we need a CDM with world class awareness. that can read plays  before he get the ball. and immediately play the long ball in to space. what i am trying to say is.................... WILLIAM CARVALHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Struggles massively in a 2 man midfield. If Leicester bought him it would only work in a 3 with Mendy & Drinkwater (not a bad option IMO). I like Danilo of Porto. Kept Cavalho out of the Portugal NT at times & could be available if they lose to Roma. Big & Powerful.

We'll need to if Mendy is out for anything longer than a few weeks. I'd personally feel happier about it were Inler and another to leave though. Getting a bit flabby with excess players at the mo.

We have a squad of 23 players that didn't include  Inler as he hasn't got a squad number. That compares to arsenals 31 players and they are talking of getting one or two more. I think we can get two or three more

We need another CM anyway, surely CR see's this so hopeful he will have something tied up by end of the window. Relying on King for an extended period of time in that position is brown trousers time.

We shoudl put in a bid for Isco or Kovacic. Real have Kovacic, James, Asensio, Modric, Casemiro, Kross. They can't accommodate all those people. I rate Kovacic higher than Isco and he is probably 10-15 mil cheaper. Brahimi would also be an excellent addition. I fundamentally disagree with Carvalho unless we plan on getting rid of 4-4-2, which should of probably been done in preseason with the departure of Kante.
