BigWesMorgan Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Carvalho is the most overrated player in human history. Stop jumping on the band wagon.

Have to say he's never shown me anything special. Reminds me of Obi Mikel personally. I'd say Amartey could be that player given time. If we want an impact first team combative central midfielder it's going to have to be someone like Nangalin or Vidal. Obvs someone that's available though.

brookfox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Completely agree. Amartey with 6 appearances, including a few at right back, is better than King with nearly 300 apps, 1 in 6 goals and three league winner medals. I get that he goes missing in games (and gurns a lot) but you don't achieve what he has without having something to your game.
RoyFox Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Paredes - immense yesterday for Roma, awesome composure, totally unselfish, and with a hint of nastiness.

BigC Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 We need someone to win the ball, the amount of times against United, Hull and Arsenal where none of our players could win a tackle was ridiculous. We are never going to replace Kante like for like but a proper defensive midfielder who is capable of winning the ball back is what we so need.
sm1 Posted 21 August 2016 Posted 21 August 2016 Renato Augusta looked good in the middle of the park for Brazil. Plays for some Chinese club.

So by that logic King should have started ahead of some nobody we signed from France last season ?? He had no pedigree or winners' medals to his name, I believe.
bpfox Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 to tell u the truth i dont think mendy is the answer in our midfield, really cant see us buying anyone else this window, with mendy down and inler leaving gee we are short of talent. please go out and buy 2 midfielders.

jock2612 Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 Irrespective of if Mendy is out for some time we have to sign a quality CM player. King is a good lad and vital squad member but just imagine the situation if Danny was to pick up any sort of problem! I don't think we will have any sort of relegation issues but Mendy/Danny out and you never know. We can still bring in cover and we MUST do it to do otherwise would be grossly irresponsible .

Kante had none of the things you're praising King for having when he turned up last season and now we're scratching our head working out the best replacement for him. King might have 300 plus appearances, 50 plus goals and three league titles but he's not as mobile, athletic, strong or combatitive as Amartey. If we want to keep a balance to our midfield, King would be the one to stand in for Drinky and Amartey for Mendy.

I like Andy King (as a squad player) he did well when called upon last season. But he's just not good enough to be the regular partner for Drinkwater. He lacks energy and no longer has the legs to take on that role. He's not even a first choice for Wales!, and the same logic applies. Fantastic servant of this club. A valuable squad member. Yes... But that's where it ends.
justfoxes Posted 22 August 2016 Posted 22 August 2016 Totally agree that Amartey can play in that position give him a chance to shine he's quick good on the ball and does like to tackle hard, you never know could be the ideal replacement !
