Sheffield United v Leicester City U23's

Checkatrade Trophy (NewJPT).

Each invited Category 1 club Must field at least six players out of their starting XI who were aged under 21 by 30 June 2016.

So in theory could we just drop Vardy, Mahrez, Huth, Drinky, Morgan and Fuchs and replace them with younger players?

We could start.....

.......................................Iversen

Youth RB..............Was.................Hernandez........Chilwell

.........................King..................Youth CM

Gray.............................Zaputska.........................Musa

........................................Ulloa

No idea.....

But you'd think Southgate/the English FA in general would rather Chilwell and Gray play against competitive opposition than other Under 21's?

(At least 5 players from Sheffield United's last starting XI have to start, according to the rules).

We wont line up like that at all, I'll be amazed if musa plays.

also it under 23s so why do we have to name 6 players Under 21? Is to guarantee players are actually under 23 for the entire season.

No idea...it's just the rules.

I never said we will line up like that, but it's probably our strongest XI without risking any first team players and giving fitness to players who need it.

If the likes of Chilwell, Gray, Zaputska are not going to get a lot of first team football. Then, unless they go out on loan, they should be involved for games like this imo.

Agreed they need game time

just to point out its Kapustka unless zaputska is a new signing I'm unaware of

Gray is in around the first team I can't see him playing but it is possible. Chillwell is possible given Jeffrey now looks to be staying

i don't think the club will be in the slightest bit interested in naming the strongest possible team, Claudio will be asked who is OK to play and I'd be surprised to see gray or musa getting the nod, and I can't see him allowing Hernandez and was to play in the same game.

in terms of over age players your likely to see Lawrence possibly even inler if he is allowed and we ain't shifted him.

I don't see why they can't play in this our next league game ain't till the 10th September

It's an unnessacery injury risk though isn't it. it's not like musa is short of game time atm in the first team.

youve got to remember the point of this competition isn't to go out and win it but to develop players so flooding it full of fringe first team players defeats the object, I'll be surprised if the side is massively different to the one that's been playing most of the u23 league games.

So why suggest Inler and Lawrence?

Why would we want to 'develop' two players for other clubs?

You can't look at it like that because if you do then Every training session is a injury risk He said Musa needs to improve his fitness how is he going to do that without playing

Can see something like:

Iversen

Johnson  E.Moore Wasilewski Chilwell

Kaputska  Inler  James  Ndukwu

Muskwe  Ulloa

Gives some valuable minutes to some first teamers who need to stay sharp whilst giving some proper experience for promising young players against professional outfits.

Lawrence is still young himself just over the age.

inler purely as he's been playing u23 football, probably as he's an old head and former top player the younger ones can learn off and losing him to injury will have zero impact on first team squad.

Unless our purchasing of Slimani/Silva is dependant upon freeing up his wages.....

If you ask the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Santiago canizares something as simple as watching tv or putting some aftershave on is an injury risk, there are levels, competitive football is statistically a lot more likely to result in injury than training.

Can't I? We will see, perhaps Musa may play if they are that keen on increasing his fitness but I can't see it. Hold my hands up if he starts no, problem admitting when I'm wrong my name isn't grewkes.

You do realise that the only one in here listing players that 'will' start is yourself. Everyone else is just suggesting their starting line up.

And i don't see how i've failed to admit i'm wrong...

Well its a bit more than just a training session as far as the opposition is concerned though isnt it?

It's not like Sheff United are going to hold back in the tackle 'just to make sure' Musa isnt injured for saturdays game is it?

Factor in also that beating the premier league champions will be seen as a feather in someone's cap....

I think you will find The only thing I've stated as fact is your original line up will not resemble the team you posted, which even you yourself has said is actually the strongest line up in your view not what we will actually field. Famous reading problem strikes again.

Think your fully aware tbf, don't bother responding though keep the thread on topic.

Wouldn't mind doing that, gives them match fitness which they need. Kind of defeats the point of putting youth teams in lower league competitions though surely? Should have been only 3 players over 21.

I would think mixing the youngsters up with senior squad players would actually be better for their development.

United's manager in pre season said he has told the Chairman to expect a fine as he is going to send out his 'weakest' team for this tournament. Whole concept is a farce.

Think we're 5/1 on Skybet... If this is true might be worth a fiver?

Utterly ludicrous situation. Some clubs can play their reserves and others can't? Hopefully this is binned off after one season with virtually nobody paying to watch it.
