Think we're 5/1 on Skybet... If this is true might be worth a fiver?

Wouldn't go that far with our under 23s current form lol

Utterly ludicrous situation. Some clubs can play their reserves and others can't? Hopefully this is binned off after one season with virtually nobody paying to watch it.

Yeah sure it will be binned off tbh, the attendances for this will be about 1000 max for most of the games with one stand open and not filled. As well as that some of the rules are a joke, for us to be able to field 5/6 first teamers surely defeats the object does it not?

FA confirmed yesterday that the games are not confirmed first team fixtures. This was done by the insistence of the PL clubs coming into it.

I cant understand why we've gone for this when we already have additional games with the Youth League (CL youth competition)

So it should, quite clearly states Leicester City U23s. If one of our first team players were to get sent off in a U23 league game it would not count, so don't see why it should here.

It's a little puzzling but maybe the feel we need the games on the fixture list, or to see how the U23s get on against full strength football league teams not that they will be playing one tonight by all accounts.

Ultimately the competition is a bit of a joke now. I can see what they are trying to do with this competition but they've ultimately got to take a step back look at it for what it is and realize what they are trying to implement here does not work at all.

EDIT: Having thought about one over age player we could well see tonight is Matty James, will actually be interesting to hear how he gets on.

I imagine it will be a pure youth squad unless anyone needs game time for fitness reasons, like James or Schlupp, and maybe Zieler in goal if Iveresen is away with Denmark youth.

Don't see the point in playing Ulloa or Inler or any other first team player, unless they need fitness. To be honest I don't see the point in the whole competition, but that is a whole other discussion.

I'd be surprised if any first teamed are involved unless they've asked to play. Those not on international duty are likely to be given a few days off. So for someone like Hernandez it's a chance to visit home.

Anyone else heading down to this? I don't really support the idea of the competition but it's the first game I've been available for this season, I live next to BL so feel I an't really miss this.

Pointless competition.

If we're trying to shift out Inler, James or Ulloa on loan then they have no business playing in this game really.

I'm not going to this - need to get my fat ass to the gym after over indulging this bank holiday :beer::cheers::frantics::punk::sick:

Living just outside Sheffield I did think about it also (and Grimsby) because of the possibility of strength of team we'd put out, but I don't really support the idea of us playing in this so not bothering with it.

If I was close I'd go despite the comeptition being a joke, just out of interest to see what tean we put out, they put out, how full it is etc.

As it is it's a trek and I've just spent an absolute fortune on tickets and travel for the CL so fork that.

Whoever asked no I don't even think any of the games are on TV at all.

Saw on Twitter that apparently 6 first team players are set to start

Maximum of 6 over age players are allowed to start.

I guess it depends if they see this as an opportunity for the younger players, or an opportunity to get the first team fit and firing and get games under their belt.

I'm intrigued what the attendance will be. I know a lot of season ticket holders there who aren't bothered and having just looked at their forum they want a boycott and rightly so.

What's the point.....I'll be fcking livid if anyone who actually plays in the first team gets injured. If Musa plays it really is a joke as Nigeria have a game in like two days?

Depends what they mean by "first team" I guess

We can play about five over 23s in what is probably the most pointless rule ever.

So by the sounds of that Gray is playing as he is actually U23 anyway. If it's true

My guess would definitely be fringe players, I would say James, gray, benalouane, ulloa, Zieler and chilwell.

Chilwell and gray would obviously be under 21 but are what you would call "first team players"

That is if gray and chilwell haven't gone to the under 21s duty already

It's not uncommon for the club to play behind closed doors friendlies during the international break to give the young guys or the guys not on international duty a chance to stay sharp. These 3 group stage games line up during the international break. If you think of them as a substitute for a friendly, it's just games we probably would have played anyway.

Look at the lineup from playing Stoke behind closed doors at Belvior Drive last year during this break.

Leicester: Maddison, Simpson (Moore 79), Barmby, Kanté, Wasilewski, Benalouane, Dodoo (Olukanmi 54), Hammond (c), Ulloa, Panayiotou (Ndukwu 61), Dyer (Cain 72)
