Best Sports Bars UK

Recommended Posts

Not sure if a similar thread exists but thought I'd make one for the best sports bars you've come across.

The ones that are THE place to watch football or sport in general.

There are Leicester fans up and down the country, so be nice to share our experiences of following the action away from home.

I watched the Charity Shield in a great one in Sheffield. Can't remember the name but it was on Division Street near the famous Devonshire Chippy.

Common Room? Been there a couple of times and it was pretty good.

That's the one. I thought it was more than pretty good but that was probably because I'd been away from Sheffield for years, so to come back and find a place showing football with 8/9 ales on was a glorious moment.

I've only been when I've been smashed and once in the summer when I ate outside so I'm probably not well placed to judge it that much!

I went back this summer after graduating in '06 and was really impressed by how the city had changed. Great mix of upmarket restaurants and traditional pubs. Shame it's full of Yorkshiremen but whatever I'll take it.

Sheffield is a great example of how to modernise an industrial city. Hopefully they can continue working on Leicester and get it to a similar sort of level.

Sports bars are one thing that we don't do often or well in England. Most pubs obviously show sports these days, but actual sports bars are still pretty rare.

Some of the ones in America are crazy, even the smaller ones- I suppose that could be down to the licensing laws? There might be more point having dozens of screens if broadcasters were allowed to show all 3pm kick offs, but as it is, there is only usually any need/way to show 1 or 2 different games at once.

I was pleasantly surprised by the new sports bar in Leicester, the locker room. Big place too.

Where is this?

A place opened in Oadby recently but I haven't been in yet so I don't know if it's any good.

Best place I've watched sport in recently is the sports bar @ centre parcs sherwood forest, they have just royally pimped the place, there must be 100 TVs in there now, I watched the Derby game in there the other day. Unless you close your eyes or climb under a table, it's literally impossible not to be looking at a TV with sport on.

Belvoir Street near Yates. Used to be chilli whites and Glasshouse back in my clubbing days lol

Me too, perfect place to go for a few pints and a couple of games of pool. Loads of screens showing sport and sports memorabilia in there too

Don't bother mate. We went there to watch a City game and decided to go to the Black Dog without even ordering a pint! It has a restaurant feel to it rather than bar- the lights are way too bright, there's loads of tables/booths with very few screens, no music or any sort of noise/atmosphere, and I'm sure there was a fish tank or fountain in there too lol

That's a shame it doesn't surprise me though, I think it was a weird Indian restaurant before that.

Used to to go in the Dog all the time in my teens/early 20s. Not been in there for years though now. Looks like they've done a really nice job on sprucing the place up from the outside. Even the Fox next door seems to show sport and looks respectable now.

Yeah the dog is a fine establishment, really nice since they did it up. They've got a back room with a big screen which is busy for most City games. Not eaten there myself yet, but their tapas is supposed to be excellent. I watched us win the league there too, so I love going back.

Brotherhood of Pursuits and Pastimes in Leeds is superb, a bar you'd go to if the football wasn't on in all. If you're ever there though, avoid Shooters at all costs, gimmicky chav central that.

Where in Leeds is this? on a Stag do at the weekend in Leeds and a few of the lads are Liverpool fans so want to watch the spurs game.

top end of town, corner of merrion street. loadsa big screens all round the gaff including loads on the wall behind the bar so you don't even have to turn round to see what's happening when you're getting served.

no idea what type of stag you're on but it's a 5 min max walk from players, tiger tiger, spoons, bierkeller etc. if that's where you were gonna end up/start so not like it's an effort to get to.
