Captain... Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 If they do one it should be vs a select XI with his Welsh teammates and some former teammates. For the ex teammates I would love to see Nuge, Dyer, Cambiasso, Knocky, Wellens, Berner, Schlupp, Hobbs, Fryatt, Howard, Logan, Gradel. Obviously the older players would only get a short run out, throw in a few Welsh boys, or a Ben Marshall, RDL, Schlupp or anyone that King got on well with even if they weren't a first team regular or here very long. I would pay money to see that game. edit: obviously managed by Big Nige or if not possible, Sven

HybridFox Posted 12 February 2017 Author Posted 12 February 2017 The problem with playing Chelsea is the likelihood of losing! No one wants to get pasted on their testimonial Like some have suggested, I would favour a "select XI" but you never know

Testimonial games are a left over from the 60s/ 70s when players were poorly paid and it gave them something to carry over till they got a real job. These people are paid too much and are lauded weekly. There were more in the 60s/70s because people hung around at clubs longer and there would be more that made 10+ years. They are obviously much rarer these days which means they probably mean more to the player, seeing their loyalty celebrated. As long as the proceeds go to charity, which has happened in every recent testimonial I can recall, then I have no problem with it.
SystonFox Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 Why is everyone bothered about the money side of it? It's not about the money at all.... its about acknowledgement

As above, it's about acknowledgement and won't be played at full pace or that seriously.
Bert Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 I think he'd do a Leicester XI v a Wales XI or something like that.

No idea who the opposition would be! The opposition should be a representative side. They should make it up from players from the three sides that were runners up in our three titles. Our team should play in a mix of the 3 first team kits for those seasons.
The People's Hero Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 The side that won the prem vs the side that got relegated from the Championship.
Sly Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 Current Squad Vs an Andy King Select. Andy plays half for each team. Opposition - Logan, Henderson, Stearman, Mattock, Heath, McCauley, Berner, Tiatto, Bale, Robson-Kanu, Allen, Savage, Fryatt, Hume, Kisnorbo, Sheehan, James Wesolowski, Levi Porter, Louis Dodds, Howard, Ashley Chambers, Dyer, Jack Hobbs, Nicky Adams, Ashley Williams, Yann Kermogamt, Chris Powell, Vitor, Gallagher, Oakley, Waghorn, Liam Moore, Yuki Abe, St Ledger, Schlupp, Crncic, Nugent, De Last, Konchesky, Taft, Knockaert, Woods, GTF, Phillips, Upson, Kante, Cambiasso, Hennessy, Kramaric, So the question remains, would we beat an eleven of Hennesey, Konchesky Moore Willuams De Laet Kante Allen Bale Knockaert Kramaric Nugent

bluesbrothers Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 In this day and age of the perpetual journeyman, 10 years for one club should be applauded, especially in Kingy's case where he's been in and out of the team at times, but has ultimately proven his worth in every league he's played in. Y'all are boring if you don't want a pre-season friendly to thank him for his committment to the club. I fancy a watch of the highlights reel on the stadium screens too. He's scored some big goals and some sexy goals for us over the years - Forest 1-0 at home, Forest 3-2 away, Man City (in the cup and this year), West Ham, Playoffs at Cardiff, Coventry, Everton on the day of our lives... the list goes on and continues to grow. As others have said, the man is a consumate pro and could certainly get some of his Wales team-mates down here, including Bale. I'd love to see it this summer. It'd be for charity surely - maybe combine it with the Birch's charity and use it to raise funds for more defibrilators or something? Love you Kingy - please stay with us forever.
