Andy King Testimonial

Probably not the right time for it in our current predicament lol.

But it just crossed my mind how long Andy King has been with us.

Surely his service merits a testimonial game, possibly in the summer.

Usually happens after retirement but seen a lot of clubs do it over the years while they're still playing - Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard etc.

I thought it was always just after 10 years?

This summer is when it should happen. Probably against a Chelsea side.

Ten years is the minimum service you have to give to get one, but it's not automatic.

How do they usually pick testimonial opposition? I can't imagine he'd be that bothered about playing Chelsea be just because he was there as a youth for a bit.

V Wales or former City team mates although aside from Kante, Knockart and Macauley there's not many that would be good enough to make it a close match. Could also feature Nuge, Kevin Phillips (only a couple of years retired), Stearman, Gradel, Schwarzer, Morison and if fit by then De Laet and Fryatt, Conrad sub obviously. Or the celebrity option with Kasabian, Rusty Lee and Willie Thorne.

Players are so well paid these days that I'd only consider going to a testimonial if the proceeds went towards a worthwhile charity.

Think that's pretty common practice

I know Rooney did it (nominated charity - Help the Aged) but to be honest I haven't really noticed to many others. Maybe with greedy agents behind them not as many players are spending their career at a single club.

Funny - a testimonial that gives a very well paid footballer a tax free income....... Testimonials must surely have outlived themselves in EPL and Championship or??

Money for charity!!

I've only ever been to one, Steve Walsh's and I must admit that I really enjoyed the game. Though I can't imagine Andy pulling in Gazza and Chris Evans some how! All joking aside though I am of the opinion that these days players really don't need these as they aren't exactly poor are they. Perhaps still relevant in the lower leagues but I'm sure Andy doesn't need a new car right now. Best thing is for the club to take him out on the lash and get steaming, after the season ends.

It's up to the player isn't it?

I just guessed because he played his entire youth there. Not sure what side he actually supports.

I do think they should make it this summer, its his 10th season and who knows how much longer he'll be here.

No idea who the opposition would be!

Another 10 years.

I love Andy King.

Testimonial games are a left over from the 60s/ 70s when players were poorly paid and it gave them something to carry over till they got a real job. These people are paid too much and are lauded weekly.

Donate profits to charity; problem solved.

It will be against whoever big nige signs for next, Middlesbrough probably, after Karanka gets the bullet. Which the more I think about is probably about as exciting as Andy kings testimonial will be.
