Not a Lib dem fan, I'm indifferent to Farron, but for god sake let the man answer or what's the point in interviewing him. If he answered the question asked rather than the question he wished had been asked then maybe AN would let him answer. Farron has shown himself to be a blubbering idiot here.
EnderbyFox Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 Well that was a disaster for Tim Farron, why does he take 8 years to answer a question? Wouldve loved to hear what Neil said there after the Mics were muted

But I don't think you minded terribly that he won, yes? I know - it was funny and a poke in the eye for those you think deserved it, but is what's happening over here now really worth that?

He asked him one question about the EU, Farron started to talk about something that happening in 2001 and was stopped, only later managing to say it, at which point Neil didn't complain.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 That was the worst political interview I think i've ever seen.
LiberalFox Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 I didn't see the interview but what was so bad about it? From the summary of questions and answers it sounded alright.

That was Andrew Neil at his very best, asking tough questions and not letting the politician get away with wasting time by avoiding answering them. Farron was awful, I don't think he answered one question directly in the whole half an hour, it would be hilarious if he lost his seat and richly deserved. I'm all for stopping them waffling on needlessly, and Farron is an expert at that, but at least let him get some of the answer out before you decide to butt in. Like I said, I'm indifferent to Farron, I've never voted Lib dem, so I'm not saying this from a position of support. I thought it was ridiculous.

At one point he was trying to filibuster the questions, it was just weird and had to be stopped - then he started talking over the person asking the questions which is even weirder. It had become comical by the end. All about opinions, give me a tough interview with an erudite presenter anyday over a debate and an audience full of people cheering, whooping or booing based only on the fact whether they like the person saying it. 7 minutes ago, leicsmac said: Fair enough...but again, given what's going on now is it really worth it? Definitely. Nothing has gone disastrously wrong yet anyway, it's clearly a total shambles behind the scenes but he's not exactly caused the deaths of millions yet like Bush and Blair.

I think it's second only to the one by Natalie Bennett with Neil. I still can't get my head around it, surely wasn't advised to go on and behave like that? Only explanation is the awful polling and disaster of a campaign has got to him.

I thought Farron did okay but I guess that's because I know what points he was trying to make. He wasn't trying to "filibuster", it's just his style. Perhaps that's one of his weaknesses, Neil made a decent point that he was treating it like the 7 way debate and not like a 1 to 1 interview. It was also like he got personally offended halfway through and they had to turn his mic off, if it was an act it didn't really work. It's like he never graduated from student politics. I assume they know what the questions will be in advance? I actually thought Neil was quite reasonable or maybe I'm naive.
Strokes Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 Farron is grotesque, a horrible little worm. I hope he loses his seat.

AN even gave him a number of chances to reign it in before he got pissed off with him but Farron seemed content to hang himself. It was as if he thought because he got a good reaction with his Bake Off comment, he had a free pass.
Guest MattP Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 On the subject of free tuition fees..... Are they just for school leavers or anybody?
Guest MattP Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 David Davis on QT tonight - first competent Tory we'll have seen on TV for a while.

Rincewind Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 Une competent Tory out of 300. The next 5 years should be fun.
The Floyd Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 Must stop spending my evenings listening to Angus Robertson.

Hopefully this is the last we'll see of him on television and he can go start paying for his own home cinemas rather than charging them to the taxpayer. Very possible Conservative win in Moray.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 1 June 2017 Posted 1 June 2017 5 minutes of that was enough. I'm politically knacked out.
