Fair enough, didn't realise that was the case.

I didn't either... tried to look it up to see if it was true, but inclusive, but given this was said by someone who should know their field I assume that's right.

Tensions appear to be running very high on the news now... looks close to becoming a riot outside the council offices.

Someone lobbed a bottle at Sadiq Khan yesterday.

They are very angry.

Good grief they have just had to move as they are protesting at a private function rather than the proper council building.

"Celebrities" claiming that the death toll is being covered up really aren't helpful. I know they have freedom of speech and probably aren't particularly bright but I wish they'd at least try and check the reasoning behind why official fatality statistics are only given when certainty can be assured.

Unfortunately the media are only too happy to indulge them in this day and age.

This shouldn't be in the councils hands... it's too big for a local authority.

To be fair, the guy leading seems relatively sane.

He does - the rest don't appear to be.

Did you see the person who started shouting at him thinking he was from the council? lol

This is why they needed a big group of officials / staff, whoever to go down within 24 hours, break people off into smaller groups identify who was who, what they needed, and then those people work personally with those groups to sort them out.

instead... it's all been left out voluntary organisations and probably a couple of unlucky lower level council workers to do whatever they could.

Can see a council worker being lynched outside here when they finish work.

One of the protestors grabbed the megaphone and shouted "Facebook doesn't lie"

Wtf.

I am sure there is a lot more detail in the local area on Facebook than is known widespread.

But as I said, this has gone beyond council level. How the hell can a borough suddenly house 100+ people like that, even if it is their legal duty. It need surfent, combined, joined up thinking.

Ok, the government isn't really a government until the Queens speech but they doing nothing... have they had a cobra meeting? Ok it's not national security but is a national scale crisis.

They've turned on the BBC reporter now, poor guy is getting pelters from the protesters.

Not really sure what a Cobra meeting would achieve?

They just have to wait for the local council to try and rehouse them.

Mostly out to cause trouble.

The media are giving them coverage, why give him grief?

This could easily escalate in to riots like a few years ago.

It could, some absolute headcases in this protest. A lot of primitive energy and anger but very little in terms of intelligence by the looks of it.

Weirdly they seem to be demanding the death toll is updated (chanting not 17) - you can't just dish out death certificates for missing persons.

Its beyond a council level... the Conservatives should know, they've cut their funding and hence staffing levels. It needs a bigger response, so draw on resource from Whitehall to co-ordinate from there. This needs crisis management.

The situation would also benefit from 'visible' presence from people in power doing something meaningful.

They don't really seem to know why they're actually protesting.

Temporary housing? The number of dead/missing? Blame for the disaster?

Whilst I understand there is some serious anger, it kind of undoes all the great work that people have done for the community in the last couple of days.

This is very much distracting from their message.

Awful behaviour. People should be protesting, the Government has let us all down. But once it becomes illegal and dangerous it is wrong. [sorry that is so obvious!]

People on the BBC in the crowd are utterly embarrassing.

Turning it into being about religion. Again.

One woman actually said: "Islam is a religion of peace."

What the hell has that got to do with this?

Now is the time to grieve and look after survivors, not for a lynch mob. That won't solve anything.

The building is still bloody smouldering.

It's just weird.

Angry woman wants answers. She's not sure what answers she wants or from whom, but she wants them.
