It's been a rumour around Forest Hills golf club for a while. The site has been on the market for a

couple of years for under £2 million.

The Cosby company that supplies our pitches have apparently been there regularly                                                             doing a feasibility survey and taking soil samples.

Remote location not far from the motorway.

That's right next to Tropical Birdland in Desford where they've got hundreds of parrots that free fly in the local area.

Googled them and found their website. Quite possibly the worst website I've ever seen.

Warning: it may hurt your eyes.

Was a council run one but closed now.

also heard it's Forest Hill they are looking at... which wouldn't be much of a loss to the golfing community as it's not amongst the counties best....

I have been told a few weeks ago that city had purchased forest hills golf club for a fee of @ 3mill the golf course has been up for sale for a while and its close to J22. Players don't like driving to the current training facility.

It's sad how exciting a swanky new training ground and stand is to me. Especially as the stand will be half full and we'll just have a squad of mediocre central midfielders by the time this is all done.

My late mothers house backed onto the top of the training ground. There were a number of playing fields owned by local businesses for employees social and recreational use plus a field owned by the YMCA ,adjoining the training ground which was acquired by the club some years ago. An indoor facility was erected but how many of what were muddy pitches on that land are actually used I don't know as it's some years since I last visited.

There was always the threat of housing on the site. Milan Mandaric came close to a sale, proposing a move to use the facilities at Loughborough,to my recollection.

It may only be a sale of part of the land not currently in use that is considered.

Forest Hill would be better for the players who live in Manchester etc, due to the A road very close to this site.

A nice place to play golf and eat but its best times were really in the past and feel like a change there is required.

makes sense, if you want to compete for the best players then you need the best facilities. Getting stuck at pork pie island every Monday morning wouldn't be the most attractive prospect.

Thankyou Whymy I have a very very close connection to Forest Hill GC

When I started reading I wasn't going to name it but its out there now. There was a very serious enquiry because the course has always been for sale at the right money and the rumour got out.The owners have denied it has been sold in an e mail to the members and I had a conversation individually  with both owners recently where they were talking about the future of the club  not a sale.they are however likely to hold out for a top top price(we could always offer Mahrez) they have had offers before.

My understanding local authourity were not keen and a chunk of the course is in the National Forest grants have been given and they were not at all happy.

The land is heavy clay,it snows up there and theres hardly a level enough bit to put a pitch in.Can land a helicopter though. Not on mains drainage and would need an upgrade in the entrance and power supply. There would be some serious earthmoving to put 3 pitches in.

The golf course business now is a lot better than it was due partly to other courses closing place is bursting at the seams with keen golfers.

When I heard about it I was trying to think of a site where a new training set up would be feasible and nothing springs to mind.

Maybe a word with Jelson see if they would sell Beadles Lake ?

Heavy clay or a flood plain? I suppose it would save them building a swimming pool.?

Posted

It aint flood plain for sure.

Something to do with the last ice age I think.

There is not a genuinely flat bit of land on the 120 plus acres I just  cant see it  being a suitable site.

Holmes park is tiny and I presume owned by the County FA

Idea -buy out Hewitts sportsturrf  at Cosby and the pitches will be perfect and bang next to the M1 private slip road happy days.

Forest hill golf and conference centre Whittington lane Thornton

Ill run naked around the King Power if it happens.when I get my new hip !

Reality is there may well be an option in place for a year or so- so the owners can say we havent sold and LCFC can do their planning costing and geo research.
