Leicester City issues statement over ticket problems which saw some fans miss start of Brighton match at King Power Stadium

Leicester City Football Club bosses have said they will resolve ticketing issues ahead of the next home game.

The club has issued a statement after problems at King Power Stadium today which left some season ticket holders unable to get into the ground to see their team kick off against Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is understood they were told they needed to “upgrade” their season tickets before they could gain entry, and were directed to the club shop.

A spokesman for the club has told the Mercury this evening that it is looking what caused the problems, which left crowds of angry fans stuck outside the ground as the start of the match approached.

However, club officials say the problem might have been exacerbated by the large number of fans who turned up just before the match was due to get underway.

Leicester City fans angry after they miss start of Brighton match due to 'season ticket problem'

A spokesman for the club said: “The Club is aware that some supporters experienced difficulty gaining access to King Power Stadium ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.

"We are currently assessing the cause of the problems experienced and the extent to which they were heightened by an unusually high number of late arrivals to the stadium.

“We expect any issues to be resolved ahead of our next home fixture on 9 September. However, as always, we strongly recommend that supporters arrive at the stadium in plenty of time to avoid any such difficulties entering the stadium.”

The problems meant that large numbers of people were still queuing when the match kicked off at 3pm.

Some angry fans did not get into the ground until well into the first half, meaning they missed the team heading onto the pitch for the first home game of the season, and the Foxes' opening goal. The Foxes went onto score a second goal and secured a win.

One fan tweeted: “I got inside eventually. No instructions from the club but they opened a new entrance. First game of the season and I missed the team walking out and the first home goal of the season. Still saw 20 mins of the first half tho.”

However, another fan said that there were new-style season ticket machines at the ground, and that he turned up in plenty of time to get in.

He said: “The club did tell people to get there early.”

Club officials said they expected to release a further statement on the matter next week.

Loyal Leicester City fans had problems getting into the club’s match against Brighton today, meaning many missed the start of the first home game of the season.

A number of season ticket holders arrived to find they could not get into the ground.

It is understood they were told they needed to “upgrade” their season tickets before they could gain entry, and were directed to the club shop.

The problems meant there were queues of angry fans still outside King Power Stadium when the match kicked off at 3pm, according to some of those affected.

Some said they did not gain entry until well into the first half, meaning they missed the team coming out onto the pitch at the stadium for the first time this season, and missed the Foxes' opening goal.

Leicester City has told the Mercury it is looking into the issue, and says the problems might have been exacerbated by a high number of fans arriving "late".

As he was waiting to go into the ground, City fan Paul Hindle tweeted: “Huge queues and angry scenes at KP stadium.

“Total shambles at Leicester City as hundreds of season ticket holders get to turnstiles to find tickets don't work.”

Another fan tweeted: “I got inside eventually. No instructions from the club but they opened a new entrance. First game of the season and I missed the team walking out and the first home goal of the season. Still saw 20 mins of the first half tho.”

Season ticket holder Kenny Griffin, from Glen Parva, told the Mercury: "I've never had these problems before. I had my ticket ready to go in and it wouldn't let me through the turnstyle.

"I was told to go to the club shop and the queue was just horrendous. Lots of people were getting irate as kick off got closer and closer.

"We heard the first goal from outside and missed the team walking out which is everything you want to see.

"I was pretty angry about it. I didn't get in until about 3.20pm. It would have been nice if one of the club officials had come out and explained what was going on, but no one did. The poor security guys were really getting in in the neck through no fault of their own."

This is a fiasco.

Every year i wonder if my st is going to work.  My daughter missed the match so hiw can she check her st is ok before the utd game?

A while a go we had problems of a different sort when the print at home tickets didn't work.  It was agreed at the fcc that the club should have done better... ie on realising a problem then have stewards check the tickets and let folk in.

Seems the once again the club failed to react to the problem that must have been obvious by 2pm.

So how are they going to check all cards will work for next game?

The club can **** right off blaming us fans stood outside for turning up late. My season ticket didn't work at 2:30pm when I got there - plenty early enough. I missed the first 15 minutes of the game queuing up like a mug. It was abundantly clear from half 2 that we were all there for the same reason and they didn't start speeding up until well after Okazaki had scored. Cheers LCFC becuase of your incompentance I missed our first home goal of the season and I'm now being blamed for not turning up early enough.

I've checked and I had no email and got sponged for a tenner to replace my season ticket that wasn't sent to my new address.

Piss up in a brewery.

It does baffle me how football clubs will send millions on one player, but not thousands to improve the general customer experience.

How early do they want people to turn up? If a queue of people cannot get in and all have to head to the club shop from various parts of the ground to then queue up again to get new tickets and head back to their turnstiles it's going to take a long time even if you turn up reasonably early (I would say 2.15-2.30pm is plenty of time to arrive and get into the ground for kick-off).

As much as some people love to big up the owners on here, the amount they've invested off-the-pitch has been a bit pathetic.
