ozleicester Posted 11 September 2017 Posted 11 September 2017 If you do something that offends some people... wouldnt you stop doing it?

I understand where you're coming from but that's a little overly simplistic, there's people out there that get offended by potentially everything. I try and reign in my language around people that are sensitive to F and C bombs, for example, but I'm not going to stop swearing like a trooper because there's some people in the world that don't like my language. I'm not going to cover my shoulders everywhere I go in case it offends someone or stop picking my nose or scratching my balls or whatever else. If we did nothing that offended nobody we'd be paralysed by the idea. That said, yid is quite obviously an offensive slur and you shouldn't really need to be told not to shout it, regardless of what Spurs fans do. Anyone who thinks that's "overly PC" is being a bit of a plank. Equally, anyone that thinks it's the most offensive chant ever yelled on a terrace and there should be banning orders and fines etc is probably a pratt.
Lovejoy Posted 11 September 2017 Posted 11 September 2017 If there is a problem with the word "Yid" being used at football, I take it the authorities will start by banning every Spurs fan who has ever joined in with a chant at a game. Sh1t chant by all accounts as has been said, but Spurs fans have at least three chants involving the word.

It is a bot simplistic, but, if am doing something that offends someone else... and changing it will not negatively affect my life ... why wouldnt i change/stop?

I remember David Baddiel going very public, if that's linked to what you're thinking. Happy to be corrected but as far as I understand the Spuds lot aren't under any real pressure to stop, just disapproval. My boss, for example, is a Spurs season ticket holder and not Jewish in the slightest, but is always referring to his team or his fellow fans as "The Yids" as opposed to "Spurs" or "Tottenham" or "The Lillywhites".
MrSpaM Posted 11 September 2017 Posted 11 September 2017 I can fully understand why people are offended by it What I can't understand is we've had much worse than this and the Brighton chant the other week aimed at us in the past and it's never gone any further than the ground or this forum Imagine if it'd hit national news every time some club chanted at us "Town full of 'P word'"

wasthedestroyer Posted 11 September 2017 Posted 11 September 2017 If anything, Chelsea coming out and saying that might make their fans sing it more.

Not saying it's justified but until they stop then nobody else will. Do you have to be black to feel uncomfortable at the use of the n word then?

one F in Fox Posted 11 September 2017 Posted 11 September 2017 I wonder if the Stewards at the KP have had any directives about it as they had about Homophobic chanting at the Brighton game. Were any Chelsea fans ejected from the ground for singing it? If not, why not, or is it just about what the home fans sing?

You said you dont feel offended by the word, i'm asking if youre comfortable using it in that case?

Actually it would less offensive if you could stop alternating, either breathe through your nose or your mouth. So annoying.
