chapero82 Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Hiya don’t suppose anybody here can help I’ve had a bad job done by a plumber and it seems he knows how to get away with it!
Sir Shep Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Contact trading standards or citizens advice as they should be able to point you in the right direction advice wise. Good luck as these people do my head in ?

separator Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Was the plumber in question a member of a trade body or has a business that you can leave a review about? It may not get your money back but you can let off some steam by reporting them.

He was part of trust a trader and I tried using them as a mediator but because of the voicemails he left me they didn’t want to work with him anymore!
stripeyfox Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Not good mate. What did he do so badly that cost 6 grand to put right?
Benguin Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Was he working for a company or as an independent trader? if it's the latter you need to ensure he is worth making a claim on as I know a lot of people who have wasted time and money on someone who is going bankrupt. Try and resolve it with him and if that fails lodge a claim in the small claims court, if he's worth it and you get a court judgement definitely pay the high court and send the can't pay we'll take it away team as you save so much time. If he's part of a company you can hold them vicariously liable and claim against them for the damages.
Wymsey Posted 3 November 2017 Posted 3 November 2017 Not sure what it's called, but my Mother uses an app which gives her a good selection of local tradespeople for any work needing doing on her home - and it provides her with key information on them including past reviews, average costs for repairs and their qualifications.

Realist Guy In The Room Posted 4 November 2017 Posted 4 November 2017 To register with trust a trader you have to upload your insurance information. Request it from them (they’re legally obliged to give it to you) then check your home insurance. If you have Legal Protection, call them and give them the information and they’ll do the rest.

Vlad the Fox Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 We could all go round and turn his caravans upside down.
Rob1742 Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 Not sure how it is done, but I would defiantly pursue it to the end. Too many bad traders around. If you have the funds you need to go for it as it will eat away at you. Just a point about plumbers and traders though, I would never ever get one that I didn’t know. Everyone should have a decent plumber and electrician in their armoury, and if you don’t have one, you will know someone who does. As an example, you or I can now become a plumber by taking a one week course. My mate is a plumber and he said it took him 3 years to learn it, yet today a one week course gets you the title of plumber. Easy to change a few taps and get your review ratings up. Plumbers are the most difficult to find with regards to good ones, and I would never pick one on price. There is too much work out there, and if they are decent, they can afford to charge good money. The cheap ones will be cheap for a reason.
