Great Boos Up Posted 9 November 2017 Posted 9 November 2017 I stood next to Vichai in Pen 3 wearing a Rooster Russell cap
Alf Bentley Posted 9 November 2017 Posted 9 November 2017 Little Top was playing marbles on the Bangkok pavement when he noticed a slightly creased football card in the gutter: "Or-mond-royd....Less-Tah City", he mouthed transfixed. A few years later, when he heard that City were in the 1997 League Cup Final, he had not forgotten. Packing only a doughnut and a bottle of Singha beer in a cardboard clapper, he bunked off school and stowed away in the undercarriage of the Ryanair flight from Bangkok to Stansted. Shivering and disoriented, on the Tube he was approached by a tall, charismatic man with a mystical air. "You are going to Wembley", said the mystic. "I am the Middlesbrough captain and I shall guide you". Top noticed that the mystic's long staff bore the unmistakable marks of dog bites. Outside Wembley Stadium, the young Thai heard the faint strains of music emanating from a Volvo car with personalised number plate PK1: "If you're all alone....Take a chance on me!". It was an omen... The car door opened wide. A man with steely determination in his eye looked down at Top: "You haf noe tick't. Coem wif me!". He reached down, picked Top up and placed him in the ample pocket of his blue and white tracksuit. Once inside the stadium, the Thai had to give up his pocket space to a young Brazilian, but from that day Leicester City would always be special to Top. Would he ever again meet the mystic with the dog-bitten staff? Would the Brazilian ever emerge from the Swede's pocket? Where was Ormondroyd? And would other LCFC fans find it weird that Top dunked doughnuts in his beer? It's a funny old game, Saint.

Surely it's more like they wanted a football club and we were available? Would you like me to Google this for you? I'm a bit sick of FT's 'vague news' approach myself, so I'm trying to encourage fact checking.

Wymsey Posted 9 November 2017 Posted 9 November 2017 Is it true that they're seriously thinking of buildi g a new stadium somewhere? Plus, is it actually true the new training ground will be definitely based at Forest Hill, Botcheston?..
StriderHiryu Posted 9 November 2017 Posted 9 November 2017 I've heard that the Cup Final story is partially true - it was there first ever football match they attended. However, they were looking at a whole raft of clubs and weighing up their decision before buying from Mandaric. They also definitely did have a box at Chelsea prior to owning LCFC.

Albert Posted 9 November 2017 Posted 9 November 2017 Can't remember the agents name off the top of my head but the owners instructed him to find them an English club to buy. Mandaric had a close relationship with the agent (no doubt due to the numerous brown envelopes stuffed with fresh £50's they exchanged over the yrs) and the deal was done! I'm sure it was a complete coincidence that Sven had the same agent also!! The owners were at the Boro game but it's laughable to think that was the day they set their hearts on buying us! It was a no brainer deal businesswise! We had all the infrastructure, a big fan base & more importantly we were available on the cheap! What amazing owners they've turned out to be though! I randomly bumped into them in a Thailand hotel a few years back and just shook hands & said I was a City fan etc. To my astonishment they insisted I joined them for a drink & we spoke about the club & their visions for hours which showed me how much they truly care about the club! I dred to think where we'd be if they hadn't of bought us

They have taken us to heights we never thought we'd see.

In my mind Vichai went to Wembley and saw us draw against Middlesborough and from that day on Leicester were his team. If this is the case would that Heskey equalizer be the most important goal in our history? The butterfly effect from that one incident is pretty massive. If someone could confirm or correct the info above i'd appreciate it. Their love for Leicester probably came from the same place as their love for Oud-Heverlee Leuven did. The due diligence process.
sixthswan Posted 10 November 2017 Posted 10 November 2017 This was discussed on Foxestalk back in 2011. Quotes from Top in the article.

Wymsey Posted 10 November 2017 Posted 10 November 2017 They've done great at the club, obviously. But, I think Mandaric deserves more plaudits than he currently gets with some of our fans tbh - he came to the club when the club was financially struggling etc, and with patience he had stabilised the club (more off-the-field) and he made the club more appealing to potential investors. He also did say when these current owners took over, that they have the best interests for the club and that fans shouldn't worry about them - and he was certainly right. Without Mandaric and the stability that he eventually managed to get hold of for the club, I reckon these owners wouldn't have considered buying the club more keenly than they had with him at the club for a few years.
