His overhead kick against Brum is etched in my memory, as a kid standing at the front of the kop

he seemed to take off.I was amazed how high he got.

Hope the club will recognise him in someway tomorrow, not a minutes anything as that would be pointless to most of the crowd.

A picture of him during the pre match montage in his kit with A simple message (maybe just r.i.p) would do.

Then those of us who want to applaud ,or blub In my case, can do.

I see there's a minutes applause for Cyrille Regis tomorrow, I hope Rodney gets a mention from the club.

Spot on. To Leicester fans of a certain age Rodney's death has a far greater resonance. If the club do not include him in the tribute, it would be a shocking oversight.

I think he was squeezed out of the squad by the influx of Bloomfield's 'new broom' players - the 'galacticos', Worthington, Birchenall, Sammels and Weller. He was part of Gillies post 'Ice Kings' squad during the Gillies exit and the Frank O'Farrell debacle. I suspect the loss of form during the transition reflected on a team sandwiched between two outstandingly accomplished teams. He did have flashes of brilliance between 'workmanlike' performances.

 I Dont disagree..

I can say his teammates loved him, as did many Fans close to the club.

Weller once said of him..'He has movement and a Quicker  eye in his repertoire  that, leaves me standing.' (71/72)

F.O'Farrel debacle..???

I didnt know a fan who had a bad word for him...After relegation, taking on a rather lost cause, he then got us

instant promotion.  Many fans wanted him to stay, but when Manutd come knocking...

It was said he was or got closer to city Players, but was more impersonal with the United players, which was

said to be his downfall at utd. They hit a losing streak , he with the team never recovered...

At that time I valued loyalty above most attributes....at the age of nineteen I hadn't developed a sense of realism. I think it was his willingness to abandon City just as he'd got them going again - it was at that point I began to loathe United. Before that I'd admired Busby and the 'Babes'. I still wonder what might have been if Munich hadn't happened - particularly with Duncan Edwards.

It turned out to be a 'poisoned chalice' for O'Farrell and we got the Bloomfield years so I suppose I should have been glad. Incidentally, I felt the same way about Frank McClintock - we had a superb team at that time and he decided he'd do better at Arsenal. So he was off the Christmas card list an' all.

It may be the German in me.

Shows the different approaches, ideas of fans.

I never hold a grudge in life...especially in sport, playing or watching.

Siege ,grudge, mentality during the events/games.Then on with the wine, women and song.

Our idols, heroes, come and go, we wishing new heroes from other teams, collecting

Player Ciggy cards, dreaming, which guy we might buy..then only Welsh/irish/scots/English.

F.McClintock going, was the real 1st pain I suppose, but I followed him, like other deparures ,

with proud not begrudging  interest.Besides I really did rate as a wide eyed young boy

Sjoberg and Cross, now they were loyal..

I always had the fortune on several occasions to meet and talk to various players

through the years, maybe prevented me getting stressed on the ins and outgoings.

My very first visit to Filbert Street.  December 1968 v Manchester United...

We won 2-1 and Rodney Fern got the winner.. A memory that I'll hold dear for always!

RIP Rodders!

January 2018, RIP.

Both were completely unpredictable. Mark, being a Kippax regular, was probably in the crowd at Rodney's second game for Leicester - the FA Cup game in February 68 that finished 0-0. Somehow I think they might be sharing a pint right now.

Weller 54, that was my first match as well! I have to admit that as a young lad, a big pull of wanting to go was to see George Best and Bobby Charlton. The excitement I felt walking up to the stadium with my Dad and all the noise was like Christmas day morning.

That's a coincidence...

My dear old mum had written to the club and told them what a fanatical fan I was... The club wrote back and arranged for me and three friends to attend the match,  have a stadium tour and meet the players!!.. It was a wonderfully special day,  one my friends and I will never forget!... David Nish and Rodney Fern scored for us.. Best for them.. A magical 2-1 win!

I know this is a thread about Rodney Fern but I don't agree with the O'Farrell debacle scenario.

Frank O'Farrell was a good manager for us and laid foundations for the Bloomfield era.

He's still alive and living in Torquay at the age of 90. I know he went off to Man Utd but he's a City legend for me as he was manager when I first went to a City game in 1968
