Most councils were complaining they were skint so council tax rises were inevitable. It's not nice for people already struggling. But what can you do!

Tory councils are going up by the maximum 5.99% as well.

All down to failing Tory big government austerity, trying to pass the buck onto local councils who have few other ways of raising money and essential services to provide.

It's basically just more Tory austerity, more Tory cuts on top of years of Tory failure that you are being forced to pay for.

But don't you worry, the rich will be getting richer.

You want change, get the bastards out of government.

No idea what it is for Charnwood but my brown bin has gone from £19 to £28. Bloody cheek!

Are you joking?

Councils have seen their budgets slashed by 40% whilst being given greater and greater responsibilities for social care.

They have to prioritise and absolutely shouldn't be prioritising people's brown bins over the social care budget.

There's one party to blame and it's the tory party who have cut everything to the bone. By cutting and refusing to increase central funding (where the majority of council income comes from) but allowing increases of council tax up to £6% they're trying to shift the blame for tax increases onto the council's. Don't fall for it - it's the government's fault.

Don’t patronise me, it was a tongue in cheek remark.

I've got no problem with paying extra tax. If we want better services we need to pay more.

*councils announce tax rises*

EVIL TORY BASTARDS!

Couldn't make it up.

Presumably me?

I haven't complained about the rise in my post.

I've complained about the cuts and tory backhandedness.

Do keep up.

I know I'm not great at the english language, but when someone uses the words "blame" and "fault", I usually assume they are being used to express distaste at something negative.

But I guess you are right. You haven't complained about the rise in your post, but nor have you praised something you were calling for just a few weeks ago.

Seems a little odd is all.

No, because my post was in response to somebody that was complaining. Wind your neck in.

So you're happy with your tax rise or no?

I accept the councils need more money and it will need to come from taxation. I'll survive the increase.

What I'm not happy about is the government trying to shift the blame for those that won't be happy.

So if the tories came out and said "our fault. We've cut funding to councils" then it's all acceptable?

there's nothing unacceptable about taxes funding services. I haven't called it unacceptable. I have no problem paying for services, as you know.

What I have a problem with is the government pushing local government to the edge of bankruptcy, whilst increasing the burden of social care and therefore putting lives at risk, and then trying to claim tax rises are nothing to do with them when their rank and file complain.

Explain to me where I'm wrong.

Interesting. So what do you think is the better alternative to having councils being able to raise their council tax rates based on local demand?
