A talented young footballer from Tamworth is set to follow in the footsteps of Marc Albrighton after being offered a three-year contract by Leicester City.

Eight-year-old Dylan Swan, who plays for Amington Diamonds, impressed coaches at the Foxes during trials and they have moved to sign the talented youngster.

Ironically, he is also part of the Marc Albrighton Centre of Development, set up by the Leicester City star and brother-in-law Conor Fulford two years ago.

Dylan, who is the son of ex-Bolehall Swifts favourite Michael Swan, also attends Albrighton’s old primary school, Greenacres.

Football coach Fulford sang the praises of Dylan – and his parents Michael and Shelley – and says his chance to join Leicester couldn’t have happened to a nicer lad.

“We are so proud of Dylan,” said Fulford. “He has been involved in everything we have done at the academy since we set up, no matter what it may be – holiday camps, Friday night football and one-to-one coaching.

“He’s also been playing week in, week out at his team Amington Diamonds, just having fun and I believe the environment created in the Tamworth Junior League and at Amington has pushed Dylan to greater heights.

“He’s just a really clever little footballer. Whatever the obstacle that comes up against him, he always finds a different way to adapt.

“I called it a while ago that he would be signed by an academy.

“He’s left and right footed. He takes people on and he is quick.

“Technically he’s very good. In one-to-one coaching, we have looked at the physical side of his game and now he relishes the tussles."

“The best thing about Dylan though is that he has a great attitude. He’s such a nice lad, this chance couldn’t have happened to a nicer kid.

“And, just as importantly, his parents are great with him.

“They don’t put any pressure on him. If he doesn’t want to do something, he doesn’t do it. It’s as simple as that. He makes the football decisions himself.

“It’s the perfect example of how things should be.

“I’m sure he will enjoy Leicester and no doubt Marc will be down to see him at training!”
