I was going to say he wouldn't be my first choice, but I've no idea who would be so that seems sort of redundant. People tend to bring up big name managers that blatantly aren't going to come here and in reality we end up with a middle of the road manager because we're a middle of the road club. If the realistic other choices are your Pardew's & Hodgson's of this world then maybe Pearson would be my first choice afterall.

Wouldn't have him back without both Shakey and Walsh though. It needs to be all three of them or not at all.

If nothing else I'd take it for the theatre. Imagine the first game with Nige back in the technical area with his gleaming whitey's and a beaming mischievous smile. Worth it just for that moment.

Also gtfo all the people saying "we shouldn't go back" or variants thereof. We've been back to Pearson already and it was a stunning success.

We could do worse lads, we could.

I despair at 48% of people. Anybody who clicked yes is insane.

There are a lot of posts like this with very little justification to back their views up. When they try to justify themselves, it's all too obvious that they can't.

And there's a lot of posts saying the opposite of this trying to explain what should be entirely obvious to everybody.

He did a stunning job for us, a key part of which was at this level. He has proven he can form a top EPL side, more so than any other manager in our history, and more so  than Silva or Wagner, who are supposedly top of our list of priorities.

I'd prefer us to look at other options too, right now. But that's because we may need fresher ideas, may need a boss who's more in-touch with the PL and because Pearson may have lost some of his hunger.

It's not because he'd be an insane appointment. You obviously haven't paid much attention to how badly the club has been managed for the bulk of this millennium, other than when Pearson is in charge, or when his set-up is still intact.

I hope people realise that when they say they want someone with proven PL pedigree, that they're actually asking for the likes of Moyes, Pardew, Puel and Allardyce. People who can, for the most part, do a steady job but not much more. And have done, more than once.

If you want the potential for something more than that then, unless we somehow snare Benitez, there's going to be an element of risk. Wagner and Silva come with risks and Pearson comparably so. We don't know how far they can go, but with Pearson we have at least seen how good a side he can form. And from a starting platform of the third tier. If you're insane for recognising this - which is the actual factual truth rather than emotive bickering and sniping - then good luck to the sane people.

Love him and what he did for us but it would be a backward step. He was too defensive too - apart from the escape games.

If we have any ambition whatsoever, this would not be regarded as sufficient reason to employ a new manager.

From his interviews after he got the OHL job, he said that he had always wanted to work overseas, and was enjoying the nature and Belgian hills. I'm sure he's also much happier not having to deal with the English press. Not saying he wouldn't come back, especially if the players begged him to and we throw money at him, but I don't think he'd be that desperate to return here if offered the job. I think some people have implied there's personal (family?) reasons for him not coming back as well.

I get the feeling with Nige that he's not bothered about money 'that' much. He's probably not short of a bob or two.

He'll be on a very tidy wage doing a job he likes without the stresses that come with the English game in a beautiful country with his family.

The most important question in all of this, of course, is would Pearson himself be willing to come back?

I'd argue that it's rather "would the owners want him back at Leicester City"

I would suspect that the answer would be a resounding 'no.'

This would definitely have been the case prior to them unexpectedly deciding to set aside their differences. Maybe Top wants to keep him there to continue working on OHL's infrastructure, but Vichai will have the final say. Either way I still think Pearson's wishes are more likely to be the stumbling block rather than the owners.

I don't know about the family issues, but fair play if he wants to work overseas and build a career over there should be commended, not enough coaches and managers from England are open to managing abroad.

In order for his profile to raise though, really he would need a job in a good European league, one of the top divisions and one where his job is scrutinised more.

But youre right he may not want that

I think he would **** off Belgium as fast as he could if we offered him a job again. Probably his only chance at managing at a high level again.

Two points:

1. The day I take footballing advice from @Finnegan is the same day I cut off my ‘Hampton Wick’ with a spoon

2. I’d love to have Pearson back. It’d take time but we’d be going down the right path once more of securing long term stability at the club. Within a few weeks, the players would know their roles and if they didn’t want to play them, they’d be gone. Longer term, he’d ship out some of the utter tripe we have at the club currently (Musa, Mendy, Slim, Amartey) would all be gone, thank God.

And he’d start signing more players that just made sense.

We wouldn’t have all this fannying around football that Puel seems to have instilled, instead we’d go back to 4-4-fookin-2

And finally the club would have some identity back again. We’d see his trainers, we’d see his miserable mush once more (and his beaming smiles) and it’s stuff I could associate with.

I detest what we’ve become over the last year or so. It’s boring, it’s characterless and I’ve stopped going.

I’ll go again if we get Pearson back.

Based on what. Gut instinct? He never had a realistic chance, not with us or anyone else, to prove otherwise. The side he formed and left behind did alright though, if you want clues.

Yeh pretty much gut instinct tbh

He's been sacked TWICE! Doesn't that say everything? :yesyes:

Are you being serious? First time was because the new (at the time) owners wanted their own choice of manager, second was because of his son.

I know you hate the bloke, but whenever you try to dismiss his achievements or rewrite history, you really don't place yourself in a good light.

This is my take on NP.

I would support him coming back his success rate at leicester is one of the best we have ever had.

Won league 1

Won championship.

Went onto one of the best great escape the prem has ever seen.

Then didn't get a chance on a 2nd season in the prem.

People saying it would be a step back but would it?

Please explain yourself's an prove why it would be because I don't understand why it would.

In my eyes hrs a better manager than puel, Shakespeare, Eddie howe, David wagner, Tony pulis, and a quater of the teams the premier league has.

He has certainly achieved much much more.

And a final point.

Not many signings that NP signed turned out to be shit not many at all.

He was at the helm when we signed mahrez and vardy and Kante but then got sacked so think of that what you will

This is such an FT wet dream of a thread!  It lovely, nonetheless! Trouble is, I suspect people vote ‘no’ because they are holding out in their fantasy for Simeone or Pep ?. What if it was a straight choice between NP and the heavily fancied Wagner? Devil you know, anyone? Yes please.

No imo a backward step. I know he kept us up in our first season back in the Prem but for the majority of that season he didn't have a clue. He tried every system going and more luck than judgement the last one worked. I also don't understand why no one else seems to want him even in the championship. I can't fault what he achieved with getting us from league 1 to the Premiership but I wouldnt have him back.
