Things could've been different since winning the league, but let's be honest- we are still in the premier league and hopefully we have turned a corner this summer.

Ulloa and Musa have gone, Mendy I thought was finished but to be fair to him, it looks like he might end up providing something and could be useful for us. I think the business we have done this summer has been pretty great. It's a shame we haven't been able to replace Mahrez like for like, but was that ever going to be possible? Maddison looks class and has the potential to become as good as Mahrez, or perhaps even better. Ricardo also looks like a good addition, and if Puel can get more out of Gray, Chilwell, Kelechi and Diabate/Ghezzal then we should be okay.

Admittedly, I too was frustrated with the seeming lack of outgoings as it seems as though a bloated squad can effect team spirit and also prevent us from signing players who could improve us. You're right as well about some of the poor decisions and signings. Some of the contract extensions we handed out seemed to be bizarre, and we have also made some poor signings. Despite this, we have also picked up some great players in the same time frame (Maguire, Ndidi, Kelechi?). I think overall the squad is in a better position than it was a season ago, and I do think that the club is attempting to learn from previous mistakes. Let's just hope that we can go on a decent run after the Wolves game and build up confidence.

I'd love to know how the team with Kante would've gotten on the next year, but there's no doubting that he made the right move. I remember thinking that if we only lost one of Mahrez, Kante and Vardy, it'd be a good summer. I thought the other two would only stay another year, but we got another two out of Mahrez and Vardy is here indefinitely.

Absolutely no question that we had a horrendous summer, but as others have said it's already been done to death. We were crying out for a No.10 and youthful, forward-thinking defenders that could phase the title-winning back four out of the team. We showed far too much loyalty the next year to the same bunch that were just woeful, but our alternatives were Wasilewsi, Benalouane and for 6 months: Luis Hernandez.

Amazing to think that Mendy is the last one from that summer who is still here and he actually played well on Saturday. Maybe there's hope for the lad.

Every since our magnificent title win, we have made a hash of most things from poor signings, huge wage increases for players, contract renewals for fringe players, managerial appointments.

Now this seems to have been a much more positive window for us. Yet, we are still struggling to clear some of the deadwood.

Word was we couldn't afford to replace Mahrez like for like. I imagine this is down to FFP and high earners on our books we just can't get rid of.

Players like Slimani, Musa, Ulloa, James, King, Simpson, Mendy as examples. I know we have sold Musa and Ulloa, and loaned out Slimani.

It seems the club is learning trying to get rid of some of them now but it seems we are paying for those poor decisions.

What are your thoughts on this?

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Is ‘bloated squad’ the phrase of the month?

We’ve got a fairly big squad but are light in some areas and lack quality depth in other areas. We’re Leicester City, we aren’t going to have quality back up in every position and every transfer is a gamble at our level. We’re always going to have some deadwood knocking around.

We haven’t done too bad ‘offloading’ either.

Slim on loan, Mendy sold

Amartey retained as back up. Silva and Iborra kicking about.

In hindsight, extending James contract was daft.

But all in all we’re ok I think

I think we’re okay, for now.

Striker is the only position I’m really concerned about (barring Vardy) but if Iheanacho can step up that’d be fantastic.

Have we sold Mendy? I haven’t been on the Transfer Forum for a day or so. I’m assuming you mean Musa.

He does. And when he says Silva is 'kicking about', he started versus Man U away, one match ago. Iborra is looking like he might be on the fringes though.

I agree, Silva won’t just be kicking about. I think he’ll play his fair share. Puel wanted to test Mendy and Man Utd wouldn’t have been the right game.

It hasn’t been mentioned but could he have left Silva out because of the Portuguese contingent in the Wolves team. Either a bit too friendly or maybe they his game/weaknesses.

You win some, you lose some, from the two games this season Maddison and Ricardo look good buys. Evans didn't look too bad when we eventually sorted out getting him help at right back on Saturday. It's early days on Ghezzal and the others.

In hindsight I think the biggest error was not inserting some crazy league winning/CL Qualifying bonus's into the original contracts/reward structure of those that won us the league (If they don't hit it then it costs us nothing, If we win the league....kerching who cares!!). We seemed obliged to offer them bumper new contracts as a reward for missing out on that. Alongside Kante's now ridiculously low release clause, I doubt we will make the same mistakes again.

Yes

Unpopular opinion but one of the most poor decisions was that we put far to much trust into the team that won the league.  . that team was never going to hit them heights again without the core being dramatically strengthened with some key players.

I suppose its hard dropping  players after winning the league but in hindsight that was 100% needed.

I think that is undeniably true, and the second point equally so - the club went into shock, like the rest of us.
