Turf recommendations

Recommended Posts

Looked for a gardening thread without any luck

planning to returf lawn at 40m square. Anyone recommend a supplier?  A lot of local ones via google look pretty dodgy

Greenacre turf supplied the turf I had put down last week. Someone else that quoted to do the work would've used them as well, so I'm guessing they're reasonably well regarded.

Their grass is growing well anyway

I always use Rolawn Medallion.  The quality is excellent & the price is good.

Rowlawn Medallion

It gets delivered by courier on a pallet.  I've lost count of the times I've used them & they've never let me down.

You'll find cheaper (only slightly) & most turf is adequate.  Even the stuff you get from B&Q is ok - if you get it on the day it's delivered to the store.

Any specific questions - let me know

Ask the chap who did this lawn. He might know a thing or two.

I got a quote for artificial turf for a holiday home I have.

It isn’t that large a lawn, but the quote was.

£23,000.

When they rang me, I was just wondering at what point they thought anyone would accept that sort of quote.

Offer to pay with artificial money? :)

You should have consulted a turf accountant...

Happy to help

Finger crossed for some dodgy weather for you.  Nice & rainy - save you having to spend the evenings watering it.

I’ve just taken the top off my old weedy lawn and replaced the top soil and put some grass seed down.

I have no idea what I’m doing however and 5 days in I just have a patch of dirt which I keep hopelessly applying water to that looks like somebody shook a dying Christmas tree over.

Seeding is hard, I had success one year with it but I’ve failed before and since. I’m too tight to turf though :D

Stick with it.

I chucked some seed down about a month ago on my own lawn, when the weather was probably better than it is now.  It still took about well over a week - more like 2 weeks.

It's taken me along time to realise that shouting "grow you bastard" just does not work.

It might do, I did that every day for in excess of two weeks and now i have patchy blades in a few areas?

That’s me all out of ideas then.

Top Tip:  When seeding a lawn, don't chuck all the seed down in one go.  Leave yourself enough spare for the inevitable patches lol

You'll be fine.  It'll soon thicken up when you start cutting it.  So long as the patches are not huge & completely bald, they will probably fill in naturally over time.
