RobHawk Posted 23 July 2019 Posted 23 July 2019 I thought we had a book thread but cant find the bugger so started a new one With holidays coming up, i'm looking for any good or interesting reads. I've just start reading a new book called Ball or Nothing, Football related about a guy who decides to become a premiership footballer at 42 to win back his wife. Its probably the best football story ive read since roy of the rovers! Its funny and a great read so far and i'm really enjoying it but wondering what to follow it up with. I'm usually more crime based when it coves to fiction but i wondered if theres any other good footy books. Any ideas?

If you've not read it yet The Damned United by David Peace is an absolute must read.
stretch1965 Posted 24 July 2019 Posted 24 July 2019 On holiday in kefalonia, read Vichais book, worth a read. Lots that we already knew but quite a bit I didn’t know. Ant Middletons book was one I couldn’t put down. Read in 2 days. Not read a Clive Cussler for a while so half way through Knighthawk which is a steady read. And in reserve I have my title winning season book which I take every year to re read and go through game by game.
ALC Fox Posted 24 July 2019 Posted 24 July 2019 If you're interested in the history of football tactics, 'Inverting the Pyramid' by Jonathan Wilson is fascinating. The guys on The Guardian's 'Football Weekly ' podcast have joked before about how Wilson is struggling to repeat the level of success that book had. It was published in 2008 though so it doesn't quite go up to the present day anymore.
Wortho Posted 24 July 2019 Posted 24 July 2019 I am reading The Outsider by Stephen KIng at the moment. Very good so far, I've not read a book by this author before, and he's prolific.
ozleicester Posted 24 July 2019 Posted 24 July 2019 Thats Weird, didnt i post a link to the old "Reading" thread in here 7 hours ago?

grobyfox1990 Posted 24 July 2019 Posted 24 July 2019 Utopia - the 15 hour work week. By the bloke who got a standing ovation at Davos when he somehow worked out that inequality could be reduced if rich people paid taxes. Got lots of good data, but conclusions are thin

reynard Posted 25 July 2019 Posted 25 July 2019 I'm not a huge golf fan but the following is a great read. Shamelessly lifted from a certain website. A GOOD WALK SPOILED is John Feinstein's acclaimed behind-the-scenes account of an unusually turbulent year in the punishingly competitive world of the US professional golf circuit. Beginning with the tense American victory at the Belfry in the 1993 Ryder Cup, Feinstein gives close-up insights of the players' minds and privates lives - including superstars like Nick Faldo, Tom Watson and Greg Norman - and captures the nonstop pressures of a sport with virtually no off-season, the intense competition to stay on the 'money list' and the psychological dangers inherent in a game where your true opponent is yourself.
