To be fair to Rodgers it’s not his team, and that team he inherited was a 8th/9th position side,  let’s wait for the next signings before we properly judge him.

Agree with this. You can see he doesn't rate sharkey but still has to play him sometimes which is undermining his philosophy...

Rodger’s needs to get a reliable Mahrez replacement (maybe even 2.) Someone who can break through a deep block, score goals, assist and possibly even defend better than Riyad did. Then he can keep his side to side football and rely on this world class player to bail him out when it’s going all ‘Brighton’. Simple really. 👀

No thanks necessary Brendan (assuming you’re on Foxestalk.)

Pity Baggio is about fifty now but seriously a player of that calibre would cost £100 million. Between them Maddison and Tielemans can do all those things we just need them to show it.

I am getting really ****ed off by our tendency to start well then go absolutely shite under basically every manager. We're the leagues streakiest side and have been ever since we came into it.

Totally agree with this. We are either capable of beating anyone (shortly after our managers arrive), or capable of losing to anyone (normally after 6 months into their stints), we will never be able to establish ourselves until this is somehow addressed.

The reason we have finished mid table for a few years despite rarely showing mid table form is that we typically exhibit lower mid table form for most the season except for 1-2 months where we blow everyone away dragging us up the table as a result our league positions have been respectable and this problem never gets addressed.

Of course football fans are not noted for their patience , but overall we are in a different universe to where we were ten years ago and finishing seventh or eighth in the premiership is pretty good. This year we should do better than that and that is pleasing. To consistently challenge the top six we still have plenty to do but we can certainly close the gap over the next few years.

Klopp has been give 5 years at Liverpool, finish 8th, 4th, 4th, 2nd and then 1st. He has had 9 transfer windows, buying 21 players spending 400 million, net spend 74 million

Rodger has had 12 month and 2 transfer windows, net spend 16 million.

Even if we fade away we are still set for are 2nd best PL finish and points totals.

The post Christmas slump is nothing new, we have had one every year since we have been back in the PL except the 2015/16 season, simply we have a good first 11, but overall the squad is not good enough.

Next year we will have money generating European football. We will have training facilities up with the very best. We will soon have a high class stadium and Rodgers ,although he has been overhyped , is a good manager of the right age. Yes, the squad will need reinforcing and money will need to be spent , Praet, Bennet and Justin are a useful start , we need more like that , solid reliable pros. We should bring the young players on more quickly but we should certainly attract some first rate young talent now. We need to be patient. If we get all our ducks in a row we should be a real force for years to come.

The player power culture that exists in the club could very well be a factor in that.

I don’t think that has anything to do with the line up against Brighton or the ridiculous decision not to make any changes until the 69th minute.

If we don’t get Champions League football this season it’ll set us back a few years I feel. Spurs and Arsenal are in a sorry state financially (and ours aren’t great) with the extra £50-60m I’m guessing we’d earn it’ll allow us to pull clear of them hopefully over the coming years.

Luckily we’re in a position where we don’t have any urgent need to replace a first team player (personally I’d like a better RW than Perez and use him as depth/rotation) so really we only need to bring in players to bolster the squad. Whereas the other top 6 candidates do and they’re not going to be able to spend as freely as they perhaps could (Chelsea excluded).
