BT Scam Calls - Beware

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just wanted to inform that there's been an apparent spike of incidents in recent days, where scammers (claiming to be from BT) are ringing people asking for people's bank account details due to their account being 'cloned'..

My Mother said she has a call this morning from one and, when she said she'd call the police, the guy told her to **** off and slammed the phone down.

There was no call log information from the caller, unfortunately.

Some people have sent messages via their Facebook wall informing family/friends of this scam.

Fraudsters posing as Police officers have stolen thousands of pounds from two local pensioners.

They conned an elderly man in Market Harborough and a woman in Great Easton into handing over large sums of cash, after phoning them saying they were investigating a major fraud at their banks.

Men who said they were officers then arrived at their homes to collect the money.

It comes just days after Police issued a warning about the so-called ‘courier scam,’ which has been taking place in various parts of the UK, including Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

My mum reported this guy to the cops the other day, but seems he managed to con some people anyway. :(

I get so of many scam calls I wish I had the option of turning my number into a premium service line and making some money off of the lying, thieving, feckers. Usually all with a very strong Indian accent and calling themselves Bob (even the women).

Next time Bob calls you, challenge him on the legitimacy of his name and what you think it really is if you want to hear some serious bad language.

I used to enjoy winding up the 'Microsoft tech support' calls, managed 45 minutes once until he realised I wasn't doing what he was asking, called me a cvnt and hung up.

Sadly it's usually the elderly who fall for these cvnts.  There's a guy on Youtube who does a lot of scambaiting using voice software that makes him sound like an old woman and the way the vast majority that I've seen talk to 'her' is absolutely sickening.

I get at least one a day

"your bank reports a VISA transaction for £600"

"Your Amazon Prime has been renewed"

"BT are cutting off your broadband"

Informing the lady who asks if I’ve been involved in a car accident that I’m blind and I really shouldn’t have been driving the car always gets a good response as does telling the bloke who wants me to renew my washing machine insurance that I don’t have a washing machine as I wash my clothes in the river just like your mum does.

These people are the absolute pits. It's so easy to get conned by their politeness and apparent helpfulness. Someone very close to me nearly lost £5000 a couple of years ago, but fortunately Barclays' computer detected a suspicious transaction and blocked it. This person still gets calls supposedly from TalkTalk trying to con them, even though they changed provider last year. Beware also people who want to re-tarmac your drive, plumbers who tell you that you need a new boiler when the old one just needs a minor repair, and even some tree surgeons. A neighbour of mine recently had a tree surgeon in, and the guy charged £1000 for ten minutes work. With these sort of experiences in life, the danger is that of losing trust in everyone, and worse still, losing trust in oneself to make the right decisions.

Totally agree with this. If anyone here wants a to re tarmac their drive, needs a new boiler, a tree felling or any minor repair does or doesn’t need doing. Don’t let these scamming wankers do it for £1000s. Let me do it, it won’t be any cheaper or better but you’ll fùcking help me out.
