His genius was recognising what we had and ironically not tinkering with what became a winning formula towards the end of the 2014/15 season.

Still the the most shocking thing that we sacked him

player power at its worse

The quote from shailen is exactly why he was sacked.

The title winning season he changed very little. The players have said on multiple occasions to the media that he tried - he even admits in the latest documentary on YouTube that he wanted to do double and triple sessions but the players said no. Eventually, he gave in. He wanted Mendy, the head of recruitment wanted Kante. Eventually, he gave in. Doing things (mostly) the way things already were worked wonders for him.

He then decided to rip it all up the following summer. You can't play possession football with Morgan, Huth and Simpson, but he was determined to. From what Walsh said to Tanner a few months back, he had increased influence over the transfer business too (yeah, that transfer window). He sacked the club psychologist and told the players to get on with it. And so on.

You then look at the spell around Christmas and January where he lost the plot. Seven formation changes in seven games, including that absolutely woeful diamond at Puel's Southampton where we lost 3-0. We went to Millwall and lost. The players had stopped playing for a bloke that to everyone but those who were blind knew had lost it.

He's been a pretty woeful manager virtually everywhere else, too. The guy has managed some huge clubs with squads full of quality and done very poorly, both before Leicester and since. That's got nothing to do with player power. It wasn't player power that made Craig Shakespeare play hoofball after signing Vicente Iborra. It wasn't player power that made Claude Puel unlikeable - the style of play, the language barrier, his man management were all reasons behind his poor performance.

It is a massive shame because he is one of the most likeable fellas in football and he did the impossible with us. But let's not escape the fact it was the only option Vichai and Top had left when he was sacked - and it was the right thing to do for the club.

Having pushed each other out of the way to laugh at the ridiculous hiring of the Tinkerman who was a washed-up failure at international level just before, 18 months later we'd ruined football by sacking him according to the media.

The press' over the top reaction both ways was utterly remarkable. He was a solid appointment to start with and had to go (very sadly) at the end. That season won't be forgotten and he'll always get a good reception from the fans as he's had twice since leaving.

The fact he managed to get Bocelli to serenade us with Nessun Dorma is every bit as astonishing as the title win he masterminded. In my top 3 footballing moments of all time.

I now have to ask Ric about the other two...?!

Will never be topped by another title winning team's celebrations.

That was as amazing as winning the title itself.

Wow this lockdown has some people very very sensitive

😂😂😂😂

It does beg the question... do you not believe we were in danger of going down, or do you think that we should have risked taking that hit in recognition of what was achieved the year before?
