Now you think FT has it's fair share of fantasists, but I kid you not, on the Villa forum  a poster is pondering whether Mason Greenwood can equal Messi in the goal scoring charts.

To hit 17 goals in all competitions is a very good return , especially at 18. I think he's an unbelievable talent and he's english.

Greenwood won't get as many goals as Harry Kane.

It's too early to say anything as silly as comparing him to Messi but there's clearly talent there. How far he goes is anyones guess.

He has massive potential, but will probably turn out to be the same as Rashford. A class player but will never get to the heights of the world Elite.

Every young English player (especially those playing for the glamour clubs) gets over-hyped, but this guy actually looks really good. 

 

Therefore it follows that if some people think Jesse Lingard (for example) is some sort of footballing genius, it's inevitable that those same people are going think Greenwood is some sort of football god.

The guy is quality. Comparisons with Messi whilst he's still so young and unfair on him to be honest. Let's just hope he becomes an absolute world beater for England.
