Mass Effect Trilogy is being remastered - Spring 2021 release

It’s tough keeping a big secret (and we really struggled to keep this one a surprise) but now it’s official: today we announced Mass Effect Legendary Edition! We've heard (for years!) your requests for a Mass Effect remaster, so we're super happy to finally reveal that we've been working on a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy.

For many months now, our team at BioWare has been hard at work updating the textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features of three enormous games. Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form. It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements. As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. It will be available in Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. More information to come in the new year!

Meanwhile here at BioWare, a veteran team has been hard at work envisioning the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next.

For me personally, Mass Effect represents years of work and countless special memories, so every year I feel incredibly fortunate to celebrate N7 Day with players around the world. Thank you so much for supporting us over the years. I can’t wait to continue our adventure together – revisiting our favorite memories in the Mass Effect universe, and creating brand new ones!

Started replaying these recently on Origin and they're definitely showing their age. Amazing trilogy and really looking forward to this.

I only ever played 3 (which I loved) and some of Andromeda (which I thought was alright) and with how highly people rate the entire trilogy I am quite looking forward to getting to play the whole thing

Definitely start with the first as your saves carry over and it opens up so much more in the other games. The second game in my humble opinion is the GOAT.

Seriously worth considering it for ME2 alone.  Without doubt the best game on 360 when I had it.

Will the gameplay have aged too much though?

Hopefully they've "fixed" the ending to 3 as well while they're at it.  The ending ruined it.  Such a shame.

The first game had some real slow moments in it but I could be tempted. To complete all three is quite a lot of hours to play through though. Take months doing all three.

yeah they fixed it years ago in a patch

When you say fixed, it was still a rubbish ending after so much set up. Especially as the best ending was locked behind playing enough multiplayer.

Mind you, the citadel dlc was really good so compensated for it a bit.

Shame they're not going for a full remake of at least updating some bits from the first one. Whilst Andromeda was a buggy mess it was also a decent game that got marked down because it paled in comparison to the first 3 and didn't really feel like Mass Effect. Hope they can recapture the magic of the original trilogy as they really are amazing games. Helped get me into RPG's and I wasn't even massive on sci fi.

Never played Mass Effect. My brother used to bang on about it all the time. So I may finally go ahead and see what the hype is all about.

Sounds like a few of you would love to play this without knowing what happens. To relive the games again.

Even if you're not really into epic ARPG in space, go for it. It's one of the greatest trilogy in gaming history and ME2 is up there with the greatest games ever. I

You'll also play them without the wonky gameplay and combat that plagued the first two (especially the first one) which is a massive bonus point. I'm finishing my umptieth playthrough at the moment.

Ive heard so many times about ME2 being one of the greatest games ever and i so love a good RPG. So ill look at this for sure. Ive always felt envy about people playing a game for the first time that i have already played and loved so its nice to be on the other side for once lol

ME2 is the best game on 360.  Certainly of the titles I had, best of the lot.  Superb game.  Suicide mission at the end was so so good, especially when investing lots of time in the characters, all of which are great.

Not Jacob though.

Never played the first one. The second was amazing, played it multiple times and loved it. Played the third one once but can barely remember it.

Very recently tried andromeda on the game pass, for some reason it really bored me and i uninstalled it pretty quickly.

Looks decent.  Not as decent as a Demon Souls makeover, but still pretty good.

Although I was disappointed to read yesterday that there is not a standalone PS5 version of the game.  Only for PS4, upgradeable to faster load times, 60FPS and 4k on PS5 though.  Shame that.

I'll have to downgrade to the PS4 disc version... lol

Had this a week now on PS5 and I'm enjoying it as much as the first time through almost 15 years ago.

The only criticism I can level at the first game at the moment is how easy it is to gun your way through enemies on normal difficulty especially since I've picked off all the side quests before doing the main quest line.  Roughly 20 hours in and have only just cleared Noveria.  On the next playthrough I'll go on the hardest setting possible as renegade and see what happens.

Brings back the memories, sound design is improved considerably through headphones and the graphics aren't too shabby either.

Yeah, agreed. Graphically you can see where they've added the spit and polish, but I'm playing it on Veteran difficulty on my first playthrough and had next to no trouble barring a couple of fluky sniper shots and rockets.

ME2 and 3 do up the ante in terms of how good the enemies are, though, if I remember right.

Yep, playing ME2 on Veteran (same difficulty level) and already gotten killed twice on Omega, that's as many times as the entire playthrough of ME1.
