Docked points for slow over rate has absolutely fvcked us as well.

Not overly optimistic for next round either considering it contains an away ashes series.

At home to Aus or India it's always a very close series. We have glimmers of hope away but invariably ends in getting walloped

We should have won the Ashes 4-1 and I reckon the home series v India won't actually be that close.

I think it's got to the stage where you have the three big nations all pretty much unbeatable at home even by each other and then win most of the other series home and away.

Slow over rates really has messed things up, agreed there.

Realistically I'd have Head over Duckett but overall agree.

This doesn't equate to consistently winning tests like Aus and India though, is our bowling that far behind?

In Indian and Aussie conditions I’d say it is. Last winter, Bumrah was far too good for us at times but you have to remember on his day he’s probably the most difficult seamer to face. I think both of those teams have the most depth in their bowling attacks, hence why India ran out winners last tour.

I fear we will struggle in Australia as our bowling attack will be inexperienced even in spite of their batting being weaker than a few years back. Their bowling attack will likely exploit the technical weaknesses that Pope, Duckett and Brook have (mainly footwork) on those decks out there.

Agree to an extent but India have won their last two series in Australia while we've been fed into the meat grinder there (13 losses and 2 draws in last 15 tests!!!!!).

Should have won just doesn't wash with me, I know last two home series have been draws but Aus have retained the ashes for four consecutive series now.

We’re definitely not unbeatable at home. In our last 15 home test matches, we’ve lost 4 (SA, Aus x2, SL). Albeit we’ve won 10 of those and drawn one. So while we win series, it’s those silly losses that will stop us getting to the WTC finals.

Yeah, fair points.

The truly great 2009-2012 side won in Aus and in India. To be truly great, any England team has to emulate that.

This team certainly can give both a match though IMO and the potential is there; the only weakness I can spot is a great spinner (again).

Was thinking more about series than matches per se, but as every match counts towards that WTC total, this is totally fair too.

Worrying mid order collapse .

Beautiful bowling from Sajid though. The flight he’s putting on it is stunning. The pitch is deteriorating fast.

Good comeback from Pakistan - fair play.

This is the beauty of test cricket, how it can all change so quickly.

Intriguing how it will pan out from here...

Great start by New Zealand

31-4 off of 21 overs are India. Lovely stuff. None of that woke Bazball nonsense.

Incidentally that’s the biggest crowd I’ve seen at an Indian test match for a very long time. Very promising.

What can England realistically chase here? I think the way it’s spinning, 250 may be out of reach. But with this England team you wouldn’t bet against them chasing 600

I think that anything over 200 will be tricky tbh, but then with this team, who knows?

Might be slightly harsh on him but is this Sajid Khan another random journeyman cricketer who comes from nowhere to take career best figures against England lol

You never know but I'd say England wouldn't want anything over a 250 lead

He's played a few tests, pretty sure he took 8 in one innings against Bangladesh before

297 to win then. Big ask, but not impossible. We either go close or will be all-out by lunch lol

On a pitch like this it's a case of get as many as you can before a delivery gets you. Crawley and Duckett need to get off to a flier to give us a chance.
