On reflection I think the statto that posted that on the bbc live feed this morning was only referring to the first innings.

Pretty sure that's incorrect as well, I'm sure Abrar Ahmed opened when we last toured Pakistan, and Ashwin or Jadeja did in India.

Sounds like your beef is with Andy Zaltzman in that case. Being even more permissive he might have meant bowling the first over rather than being one of the two opening bowlers.

Ahmed bowled the first over in our first innings of the final test last time, so unless he means first of the entire match lol

Rehan on form.

More underwhelming and embarrassing performance with the bat from us.

At risk of missing out on the WTC final if we lose this series.

Never had the NZers down to win a series in India. Good for them if they do.

Western Australia going from 52-3 to 53 all out is some going lol

Good to see Rehan having an impact, surprised we waited so long to see him have a go.

Time for a couple more of the old guard to step down and begin the transition to bringing younger players through. I'm half inclined to include Kohli in that, too.

Only 1 half century in 9 test innings this year so far.

Sharma doesn't fare much better either.

18 innings in 2024

Two tons

Two 50s

10 scores of 20 runs or fewer.

Just not good enough any more.

India haven't lost a home test series since we won there in 2012.

Record in home tests since then is 42-7-5, madness.

Huge from NZ, looks like India will be chasing 350 at least here, hopefully 400+.

Got to say it's odd that they're producing such spin friendly wickets when they've got the best fast bowler in the world

Probably think that the NZ bats would fare worse against spin on those pitches in spite of Bumrah. Clearly a lapse of judgement.

Says a lot though that India even in a transitional period are at the top of the table.

Unless game is at Oval is must be time to drop Ollie Pope. These are his last 10 scores excluding his 154 at Oval 1 3 22 29 0 7 17 1 6 6. An average if 9.2 is what might be expected from a number 10.

Stokes in Asia average is only 14 since 2019 as well.

One thing that annoys me is the criticism towards Pakistan producing rank turners. Personally I don’t see anything wrong with it. You develop pitches to your strengths and it is one of the beauties of test cricket and why it should be incredibly difficult to win away from home.

Also, have to bear in mind that until the last tour, England had won the sum total of 2 (two) Test matches in Pakistan in all their tours there.

The choice for Pakistan seems to be turners or absolute highways. They’re just not going to outscore England and I do think you can make the accusation that some members of this England team are flat track bullies. You just wouldn’t criticise Aussies for producing hard, fast, bowler friendly wickets, wouldn’t criticise the ECB for producing green tops, so why are they criticising Pakistan (perhaps some unconscious racism?)

Yeah, doctored pitches piss me off during the course of the game (usually during India tours) but at the end of the day it's part and parcel of the game and why winning away (especially in India, Oz or indeed England) is so difficult and so prized.

Waking up to needing to chase 359 is welcome. Thought it'd be much higher than that.

Not that I think we'll win, but we've got 3 days to chase it down if so. Guess it's realistic and not impossible...
