Waking up to needing to chase 359 is welcome. Thought it'd be much higher than that.

Not that I think we'll win, but we've got 3 days to chase it down if so. Guess it's realistic and not impossible...

bazballing it by the look of it

When I posted this about an hour ago, I think England were only 3 down in their game.

What the fvk happened?! Has the pitch totally broken up?

Nope, the ball was doing nothing remarkable. Brook edged an average ball because he can’t play on anything but flat decks. Stokes left a straight one, Smith charged down the wicket to a straight one and missed it. Root got a beauty, the tail gave their wickets away. Just crap.

Didn't you say that in Root, Brook and Duckett we have 3 of the best 5 batsman in test cricket? Your above description of Brook probably goes against thatlol

*on flat decks 😭😭 Duckett did get a hundred in the last test so my point still stands but I’ve changed my mind on Brook. Kinda shows how ridiculous this series has been though and how fragile this England team actually is. I think I got carried away.

Get ourselves in good positions but far too often let the opposition tail wag. Both the last 2 matches its cost us, amongst other things.

Plenty to like about this era under Stokes, and we need to remember it wasn't much good before it. But I can see the next Ashes being the end of it. New Zealand will be tough but will probably suit us, tough summer against India then the Ashes.

Conditions helped Pakistan but we can still do much better surely?

That final test strip should be reported

that’s not prepared for a five day game - horrific

however, our application with the bat was sadly lacking (‘that's who we are mate’) and our tactics with the ball after they were 7 down was strange

The teams scored a combined 600+ in the first innings. There was nothing wrong with the pitch. We just got ourselves out playing stupid cricket in the second innings.

I was a bit over dramatic - true

but pitches where you open with spinners in the first innings are not prepared for five days.  This one barely made it to day 3

and yes - we batted dreadfully through the match imo.

teams can decide to play ‘one day cricket’ in tests which will accelerate the result but the pitches should surely be prepared to allow for seamers on day 1 at least.

This final test in Pakistan was also Jonathan Agnew's last test as BBC correspondent. I'll miss his enthusiasm, knowledge and ability to convey that and position of match in a limited time he had available. And of course, his part in

I think he’s still part of the commentary team going forward, just not involved as a regular BBC reporter/correspondent.

That’s the way l understand it anyway.

We don't bat long enough. Too interested in scoring rates instead of batting time. It is ok whacking the West Indies or Bangadesh attack around at Edgbaston but playing in Asia is almost a different sport.

I know we scored 800 two weeks ago but generally the batting has been well below par.
