England's arrogant approach will generally go 2 ways. All out for 160 on a green top, as this will probably end up, or 500+ on a flat track.

Surely 'bazball' can be tweaked or tempered to the type of wicket or state of the game.

Yes, it’s generally exciting, but becoming too predictable.

Important toss to win but its lazy batting hiding behind 'being positive'

Feel a bit for Bethell as he's just shown his inexperience there.

Thankfully Brook is on form right now.

And the bowlers got to work .

Think what's happened in the NZ innings has vindicated Englands approach tbh - this pitch is a seamers paradise (especially with the quality of bowling on both sides) and if you go too defensive then you're getting got anyway. Better to make the runs as fast as you can before that happens.

As usual with England the game moves very fast. Almost like they wanted to bowl yesterday so made sure their innings was quick, whatever happened.

Horrible start but in the end you have to say England win the day again. You can't deny its entertaining.

I understand the positive approach, and fully endorse it, particularly on a dangerous pitch but that Crawley innings was bizarre. Stick up for him more than most do but there were actual slogs, almost every ball. Brook was the same but its going his way at the minute and he got through it and cashed in again.

Carse taking the test cricket like this is wild considering his first class record really isn’t all that. Basically the same average as Chris Wright

Certainly making a great impression.

Must be given so much confidence from his team mate and skipper who has backed him.

This is his 10th test, he’s taken 47 wickets @ 19, got a test hundred and now a hat trick. What a player.

Hopefully him and Carse can lead the attack for years.

Brilliant from Carse and Atkinson. That's how you bowl to tail enders.

Stokes and McCullum really highlighting how county cricket doesn't do anything to prepare test cricketers. If you're not a 70mph swinger you don't get a great record in County cricket.

Carse is nearly 30 and is another chronically injured player (plus his other discrepancies) so I can’t see.

Crawley…
