I really don't get the big fuss with VAR. The decisions that are deemed controversial are those that are millimetres in distance and linesman were getting that wrong before anyway, so surely VAR only helps that decision to be more accurate. I get that it can be frustrating but imagine losing top 4 or a title to a clear offside goal which shouldn't have stood. I know what's worse.

Yeah but it works both ways, we could get top 4 by scoring an offside goal that VAR would chalk off. It’s the same principle as just going with the ref, you gains and losses will even out over time. VAR doesn’t add anything imo

Yeah of course, but that's what is good for the game, you want the teams that play the best football to win the games and not because of controversial decisions. I'd rather we got there due to outplaying the opposition like we have this season and not due to fortunate decisions. I'd still love it ofc if we got a controversial goal to get there but that's not good for the game.

And I don't buy this idea of decisions evening themselves out and even if they do, you wouldn't want a 3-0 to become a 4-0 against a Sheff Utd or a 1-1 to not become a 2-1 against a Man Utd due to a bad decision. That could cost us, even though decisions evened themselves out.

I think Teams with historically high UEFA Co-efficient numbers should benefit more from VAR decisions and always given the benefit of the doubt when playing against non-Big 6 Teams.

Sod this consulting lark.

This summer there will be some changes made to how to use VAR, and the rules. They invariably will continue the confusion whilst creating endless mind-numbingly boring debates about decisions and we will be sat here saying the same thing in a years time.

Get rid.

VAR is not the issue. It's those implementing it. And until that improves we're f***** either way

Var isn't the problem. It's our officials.

I believe people are finally starting to realise that now as well. Honestly, the PL is supposedly the best league in the world. Go and get the best refs and linesmen/women and you'll see it improve.

Also the fact the PL don't use every angle available makes it worse, they use selected ones.

I think if VAR stays it needs to change to a tennis or cricket system where teams have reviews.

Good point. The problem is not with VAR but in the way it is used especially in offside decisions. Some of the decisions are so mind blowingly absurd they just cause mayhem and mistrust. If teams had only a certain number of appeals it would weed out some of the theatrics we have seen in the past especially in penalty decisions.

So long as someone said above they aren’t just used to waste time or for minor decisions like throw ins just to hold the game up .

Don't get me started on throw ins!! It's about time time-wasting tactics were outlawed. You're allowed so long to take a throw in, goal kick, distribute the ball from goalkeepers hands, take a free kick and after that the ball goes over to the other side. Some of the time wasting is so blatant and cheats the spectator out of game time.

I see the latest time waster is head injuries as we saw against Arsenal when Tierney went down and nobody had touched him. Happy to see genuine head injuries treated but play acting over something so serious should be stamped out (excuse the pun!)

I don't think they would be mate.

Weve genuinely seen when players know if they're offside or players know when a decision is wrong just by on field antics. Say you have x amount of time after a goal or what ever to dispute it.

Var would still be watching for instances say of serious foul play and bad tackles if they're missed. Ref straight to the monitor. I wouldn't be against it going and back to 'normal' as we know it but I believe it can hold major benefits to the game just needs to be worked differently.

VAR IS the problem, just as much if not more than our poor refereeing standards.

That said, in 2018 before VAR was introduced, Premier League referees got 94% of major decisions correct. Whilst we have the odd moan about particularly bad decisions I don't think it was big enough of a problem to warrant this huge overhaul that, for me, has made the game far far worse.

The biggest argument seemed to be that some big decisions caused managers to lose their jobs or teams to get relegated which is laughable.

I like to think i'm pretty open minded to change, but I doubt I'll ever be onboard with VAR.

Sounds like the sort of thing Big Sam or Neil Warnock would say.

I don’t think a ref did anything right in their eyes before VAR and certainly don’t now !

Stop the clock and reduce the game time to be 2 30 minute halves, which, considering the longest ever recorded in the prem is 61 minutes ball in play time , would get rid of all the diving and play acting and give fans a much better spectacle.
