I think sterling had his best game in England shirt for a long time, least now he can now say hes worthy of his place now... while Kane is now under pressure goals 0, shots 0, assists 0 work rate pretty low also... rating as captain is low as well think hes poor choice as captain. Think Maguire or Henderson would be better qualified even maybe mings.

People talking about the sides who win tournaments after playing like shit are of course completely ignoring the fact that the overwhelming majority of the time sides play crap in the group stages they’re out at the first opportunity in the knockout rounds.

Portugal didn’t play well in the group stages of euro 2016 (although they scored twice as many goals as England did this year). You know who else didn’t play well? England. And they got beaten by Iceland in the next round.

This group stage has left us in a bit of a no man's land. Going through without conceding is great- yet we've barely faced a threatening shot in three games. We've had no jeopardy, no turning a game around, we've got ahead twice and seen it out comfortably or struggled to score and then create in the other match.

Of course, playing these sides doesn't give us a guide against the better teams we're going to face but we have to hope there is more in the locker. This really was a case of getting the job done (qualifying) with the barest minimum of risk and effort.

I agree.

I'm not sure the current set up will beat a Spain, Portugal, Germany or a France – but who knows, I guess anything can happen.

Spain are absolute toilet - fair chance we would bottle it but certainly are capable of beating them.

On paper we should be able to beat anybody on our day.

It's just that we don't look like anywhere close to 'having our day' - I hear 'more in the locker' talk but wonder if the side has even found the changing rooms.

This is the weakest Spain team I've seen in a long time but somehow they have scored more goals than we have.

Might be the weakest Spain team but they still do create plenty of chances. It's having the donkey that is Morata up front that hinders them.

They've created a ton more chances and should easily be on 6 points. Not even close to bemusing that they've scored more than England.
Only Slovakia and Finland have had fewer efforts on target than England. The way Slovakia are going, it will likely stay that way, but that is pretty poor.

As much as I am down on England, whoever wins England’s second round match has (on paper) a very favourable QF draw. Looks like it will be the winner of Sweden v Ukraine.

I think it’s the best chance we have in years.
We play against a German side who struggled to draw against Hungary.
Then if we win that it’ll probably be Sweden who are a really well organised side but certainly beatable.

We need to capitalise on this favourable situation, stop pissing about and start to play like we all know we can

Yup, it's the best chance since 2018 or even 2016
