Reactionary.

We're poor tonight, of course, but that isn't the characteristic I'd apply to us.

It’s certainly not. We’ve been a weak side for yonks now.

Mentally weak. Players like Soyuncu have one disappointment and their head drops, makes rash challenges and jumps into everything. Then you’ve got the likes of Maddison, Perez and Vardy who literally vanish when we’re struggling in games, about time we use Soumare and Daka or what’s the point.

BR has said as much - hence why he signed Soumare as a bruiser in the middle of the park.

Little doubt that the gaffer got it wrong tonight. There’s nothing wrong with having confidence in the lads and the method, but sometimes it needs changing up to nullify strong opposition.

There is so little visible aggression, determination and anger in this team - or from the manager - when things aren’t going well. That really concerns me, and has done for a while.

Madders and Perez have no pace and no strength. One we could probably get away with but both is just hopeless against this kind of opposition.

It's so predictable, and it is a bit scary that BR didn't feel he could do anything else.

As said in another thread today we had 9/11 of our first 11 that smashed the season 2019/20 to 13 points clear in top 4 playing our best ever winning run.

The difference isn’t physically but more pace. We don’t have the pace we did then.

Prime Ricardo and Chillwell at the wing backs. Prime Vardy running ragged up front with Barnes too.

Compare it now we have Ricardo and Barnes both not back to their best due to serious injuries, Vardy too old and no threat over the top anymore. Thomas not the same engine of Chillwell.

Then last season at our flying best we had Fofana and Justin in our back 4 both real raw pace as well and we struggled after Justin and Barnes got injured too.

The biggest issue we have this season currently is the pace of our team is all gone and so we are so easy to deal with as teams can press higher with no worry of being split open and this gets 2 things happen to us:

1 - more pressure on our only creative threat Tielemens.

2 - more press on our defenders , which forces us to go back to Kasper(cost us the 2nd goal) or just the CBs having no pass other than to play up and back to themselves! And that’s even worse when you have Amartey and he can barely move forward. West Ham we’re laughing.

A lot of teams will do this to us. We need to scrap this rubbish defensive pass pass style because it’s impossible when we have no pace. It’s too static and teams just mark us out of any chances too easily.

Need Daka and Nacho to play more vs the tougher teams and maybe play Ricardo on RW when Timmy is back as he has some pace and threat unlike useless Perez.

Madders is another with no pace. Just too many were carrying atm - you can carry 1 with no pace but not all of them.

We basically telling the other side we have no idea of what to do with the ball and we are no threat. It gets to the point where teams start to realise they have no thing to fear so might as well take risks and run at us.

We keep passing it around like that as the other teams know if they sit deep and don’t be too adventurous, we will just fanny about with it and then give them chances.

So no, other teams know there is a lot to fear if they play open expansive football. Which is why they don’t actually take risks.

Yup and it’s paid off for West Ham against us 3 times in a row.

Yet again we made them look like world beaters but it was more how poor we were! Again!!

Even after we gave them a crap goal from nothing, (Vards didn’t have anyone near him) and after the ref card they didn’t really create any clear cut chances until yet again we give them an absolute disgrace of a goal. You would expect to see that at Sunday league level.

Its clear BR wants us to play a certain way but give the team a chance to build decent attacks. All they had to do was put 2-3 men on Barnes and sit deep and we were completely nullified.

Pass it at the back by all means but the team has to think let’s not give these guys easy ways in again but it’s exactly what they’ve done again. West Ham weren’t even pressing us and we was making costly mistakes.

Just go direct and if we lose possession against these guys then so what. Let’s see what they can do against our press.

BR should have learnt a better way to play in a game like this, disgusting performance and he has a lot to blame for all of these hammerings by a physical basic team.

Rodgers reminds me of Barcelona.....

The side that lost 7-0 on aggregate to Bayern Munich when having Xavi/Iniesta/Messi/Villa etc still in their squad.

And the side which got destroyed 8-2 last year, also to Bayern Munich.

Slow possession, going absolutely nowhere, and as soon as the ball is turned over, it looks like you're going to concede.

Last two games we just can't deal with big strong forwards, bet Antonio was watching Traore against our defenders.

And there's Lukaku to come. Chelsea will take us for a cricket score unless we work out how not to lose possession so easily. We saw it time and again last season, the soft underbelly, and get caught out too easily by fast and physical sides. It's become a model to beat us and ain't rocket science.

Some teams go down to 10 but dig in and look rejuvenated. We don't. We don't have enough players who seem to want it in that situation. We're very easy to bully and I was surprised we didn't concede from at least one set piece.

Maddison goes down all the time and it's fvcking annoying. About time refs started booking diving and he'd be part of it. When Oliver played on Barnes didn't know what to do because he didn't know if Maddison was gonna ge up or not.

Glad there’s a thread on this topic. It really is striking how feeble we are as a squad. I’m not even sure a single one of them could bench 225. Maybe cags, maybe kelechi, bertrand? maybe kasper. No chance the rest and I’m not even sure about those.

It feels like physicality is an overlooked and underestimated quality in football in general these days, especially now they’ve relaxed the refereeing a little. Watching a number of games over the past couple of weeks I kept thinking to myself gosh have footballers always been so scrawny? I reckon there’s an opportunity for someone to put together an old school style squad of bruisers and have a lot of success. Just look at the way Lukaku bullied Arsenal the other day. Obviously he’s class too but it’s clear he’s gonna leverage his physicality to great effect this season.
