We were interested in Edouard but Celtic kept moving the price to the point where Daka became the preferred option. A bit like if we want this lad at 30mill but Brugge keep moving his price upwards, we might switch to a different target if we're then shopping in the 40mill bracket. It's wasn't a smokescreen, celtic priced him out of a move to us. ....that may be the story behind the summer dealings when we all believed it was just a matter of time before we announced his signature!!! The outcome was that he went to Crystal Palace for £14.67m which was something like half the price that we were being told was needed to get him. Probably proof that as a club we are easily manipulated and have to jump through hoops to acquire our targets. Arsenal under Wenger experienced the same problem as they missed out on targets only for the player to end up elsewhere at a lot less than Arsenal was being asked to pay. Wenger got himself very much involved in these dealings and you suspect his approach left him open to being taken to the cleaners.

Iran Posted 3 July 2022 Posted 3 July 2022 This transfer window is not good enough! Of course there is still plenty of time left in the window, but seeing other clubs transfer news makes me nervous. 1

Dahnsouff Posted 4 July 2022 Posted 4 July 2022 Do not believe we will sign this guy, but I can see why we would want him judging by this description “He is actually an infiltrating No 8 or No 10, but rarely plays in this position,” believes Belgian journalist Sven Claes. It is his technical ability and tactical intelligence, despite his tender years, that have made De Ketelaere so versatile. European scouts note how he makes very intelligent runs, has the quality to bring others into play and has a similar physical presence and gait to Brazil’s 2007 Ballon d’Or winner Kaka. “He is already really phenomenal in handling the ball,” Claes adds. “His decisions under pressure are often very impressive. He also knows how to use his body well in duels despite not being a block of concrete, and has unexpected movements. This is from an article in The Athletic

Only way he fits in here playing in a front 3 would need a lot of fluidity with Barnes the either side and then support from Maddison as the 8 and either Castagne or Ricardo pushing up to support. De Ketelaere doesn't take players on, which as a team we don't do enough of and is very obvious in certain types of games. 1

Think he is a hybrid, he certainly played more as a striker last season, but his stats indicate their is far more than a simple striker. He averages about 50% as many assist as goals, but this would in part be down to where he is being played. I could certainly see Barnes, Maddison, CDK in a narrow 3 behind Vardy/Daka. Anyway, doubt he will come as his stock is getting rather high. 1

ALC Fox Posted 4 July 2022 Posted 4 July 2022 (edited) The sale of Phillips from Leeds to Man City has gone through. Although Raphinha hasn't gone yet, he surely will so if they're serious about CDK I'd expect them to make their first proper move for him very soon. Time we got a wriggle on if we really want him. I mean it's pretty obvious they're going to be his last choice from a footballing perspective. He's not going to be in a rush to go there unless it gets later in the window and they're his only actual option. They've got the cash but that's it. We've been in their position before (and, in fairness, benefited from it - Kante, etc) where players would probably rather go elsewhere but we just had the money. Clearly us and Milan need to get our finances in order first and may end up having to go with cheaper options. There's enough in the CDK rumours and has been for long enough that we're clearly interested but we obviously have to get our ducks in line first. 2
