everyone loves a bit of flair

That wasn't what supporters were saying about Maddison before he got back on track. Flair is great when you have an end result. As much as I appreciate his talent and realize his potential for the future he has to learn to see a pass and keep the ball moving down the field.  Not surprised Rodgers said something to him. I was cringing when I saw that. We should have scored more goals.

I want to agree but your have Rodgers shouting at him not to take too many touches in his first game. Rodgers’ conservatism may run off negatively on Alves and set him back …

The poor baby. I can only imagine what he gets in practice. No manager is going to mince words in the heat of battle. Short and to the point.

He was playing with himself getting pressed in midfield by three players. The ball almost stolen but to shovel a pass to his teammate who's immediately put under pressure......... if I remembered that I can only imagine Rodgers was perturbed slightly. And I'm sure that our coaches are working on that issue with him until he gets it right.

I gather Will has a huge amount of self belief and a strong work ethic so I imagine he'll take it as constructive criticism and know its coming from q good place.

Literally a 16 year old making his senior debut and still managed to take this piss out of a couple of Watford players with us already 4-1 up

I wouldn’t read into his 10 minute cameo THAT much

Bassey is doing decently at Rangers no?

I mean yes, but if he'd stayed he may way have ended up with the opportunities that Luke Thomas had. Point being that our club does seem to offer a good route into first team football if you are patient and good enough.

I think I missed this, is there somewhere we can read Brendans comments?  I dont think he's wrong tbf. Its nice to show what you can do but you do need to be achieving something with it.

You've seen him play for the sum total of 10 minutes ya melt, give it a rest!

We were 4-1 up

i imagine rodgers told the kid to go and enjoy himself which he clearly did

the senior players would have indulged him - Marc, having run past the ball would not usually be happy to see the player with the ball try a trick and lose possession. But in this case the youngster would be allowed to make the error and the coaches will use it to show him where and when he should and shouldn’t be doing stuff like that. it’s part of his learning curve - tbh, he won’t need to be told but he likely lost concentration given the magnitude of his senior debut. Can you imagine what was going on in his head - nutsville.

I dont. But people using it as an excuse to take another piss on the manager. Other than that Alves was fine. Rodgers was extremely sensitive with a player like him at Celtic. Dembele his name was I believe. Rodgers was reportedly pissed about lower managers tossing him in with players way above his age group as he wanted to protect him. As if Rodgers didnt know how to handle younger players.

Can we just let this thread surpass the Nicky Maynard one and make Alves know we are behind him. Then, if he becomes the Groby Gazza, we can all say we were there and if he doesn’t then we can all reminisce about this thread! Win/win!

He is from Groby!!. Flipping heck. Certain England starter by the time he is grown up. Go on lad. Made of granite.

I wonder what Saturday evening was like in their household.  16 year old gets back from his "footy game".  Was it a case of having to do his chores and get to bed by 22:00?  Must be surreal having a child in the house who's just made their first team debut.

"Oi, Will, I told you to load the dishwasher before you started playing on your Xbox".

I just can't picture it and how it would play out!

By the sounds of it you can’t really picture the life of a normal 16 year old let alone a footballing one.
