sylofox Posted 21 February 2022 Posted 21 February 2022 I personally think we will fvck this up. I so hope we don't. But if rodgers is booted this season it's this game.

I'd be happier for sure. I'm just not Inspired by a 2nd, let alone 3rd rate competition. Blue tinted glasses are admirable but let's face the facts of what the competition is, just like what some were finding amusing about Spurs at the end of last season. I am a Leicester fan. I've been there in League 1. I have no delusions of grandure. I do however want to win everything (worth winning). I understand you have to be realistic regarding where we are as a club, but we are a big club in terms of finances and reputation, not on an elite level, but not far off either. And the Europa League and ECL are not elite. So we're in no position to dismiss or turn our noses up at it. If we were playing CL football for several seasons and then dropped down to the EL/ECL competitions I'd probably be in agreement with you. But we haven't, and I don't feel comfortable not giving a crap about European football considering we didn't use to be regulars. I struggle to get on board with fans that don't like playing in Europe or embrace the qualification of it. Won't argue your right to feel that way, but also don't like that fans pay no respect to it as if we're too good for it. 7

So you would rather just get knocked out of the conference league and finish mid table in the league ?

You seem to be having a positivity crisis moving between threads spreading doom freely. In another thread, you have suggested the Under 23s should play this game. Please clarify whether you think the first team will mess this up or the Under 23 side that you have selected. Personally, I think it would be wise to use the first team squad who are unlikely to mess it up. Not impossible but highly unlikely. Randers are no Nottingham Forest. 1

Can you explain the value of the Europa conference against the potential damage it could do to our Premier League campaign next season?

You do realise that IF we win it, we will be in the Europa League next season, worth around £13m according to our latest accounting. Not only does it mean we will be able to attract better talent than if we weren’t in Europe, it is worth more than finishing a couple of places higher in the league. Not to mention - a trophy. The latter stages of the Europa League are of a high standard, the small chance that we win the Europa Conference, then we compete in the Europa League again... We could win this and ente ryhe Champions league in 2 seasons time... And hopefully these extra games won't effect our Premier League season... Its highly unlikely! I'd rather concentrate our resources in our bread and butter, considering we failed to finish top 4 past 2 seasons due to injuries and squad depth.

Every win in a uefa competition raises our co-efficient ranking so, if and when we do qualify for CL we stand a better chance of being in a seeded pot and a better draw. Plus it raises our profile when looking to attract prospective young talent which we can afford and then develop (as per our transfer policy/model). 1

We were in 3rd or 4th for the seasons so it didn't have that much of a distraction...?

I don't believe that we become a better proposition to recruit just because we are in European competition. It can help agreed, but it's not a major factor.

So... everything will be great, we win it all and it won't effect us in any negative way? I'm not convinced!

Puts us back in the Europa league and another season of European football. Raises profile of the club and increases our coefficient.
Ric Flair Posted 21 February 2022 Posted 21 February 2022 This could be the last time we're in Europe for a while this season so make the most of it. I cannot envisage how this current regime is robust enough to get through 8 more games and win it but you never know. If we are to do anything to improve for a sustained period of time this season it will collectively be due to the return of Vardy, Ricardo and Fofana but keeping them fit and inspiring the others to gain confidence and form is the hardest part. I hope we can have the will to win this as it would be no mean feat, any European trophy for us would be a first and would go some way to laying down a marker as to what's left of this mob. 2

I don't have a problem with us giving it everything in a European competition but I'm not sure I'd risk our key players or anyone returning from niggles. Randers manager was quoted after the first leg as saying his biggest disappointment was they didn't get any yellow cards. I don't think they are going to be a dirty team but they play in a league that isn't as high intensity as the Prem. So if they are in front of their own fans and expected to be a lot more physical this time around we could be one mistimed tackle from a needless injury. I for one think our league status is more important so it isn't a game to put our best available team out for. It's not disregarding the competition in the sense that we're too good for it, but by that same token we're certainly not too good to not get dragged into a relegation scare. Mid table is about as much as we can expect now.

I see your optmistic logic, but this is all at the assumption that there is not cost to the team. We are having such a poor season that its come to this, that we try to resurrect the season in this cup. The Legia defeat is utterly unforgiveable.

We may aswell be playing Northampton Town, as that is the level of this next fixture. I'd struggle to see how there is anyway we can fcuk this game up.

Popular Post Father Ted Posted 21 February 2022 Popular Post Posted 21 February 2022 How can anyone not want to win this, when the end goal would not only be silverware but a place in the Europa League again next season? These same doom merchants are those that were happy with finishing 5th as we are “overachieving” when we were 15 points clear of 5th. 4 1
