I don't think that's true at all, I think it's only perhaps the case when having to use young and unproven players. Thr likes of Flynn, VDC and Brunt might have made a few starts for us but in 2-3 years time they will very likely not be playing for a PL team but there will be players of their age playing for PL teams in their position that do have the skill and ability.

For all Rodgers encouragement of academy players, he still leans on physicality over skill you're absolutely right in the 18-21 age groups.

players may not look like they’re physical specimens but they mostly are at the top level.  The properly gifted ones can get away with it more because their ability buys them a split second (those with a ridiculous sprint off the mark can also often get away with it)

100% that those three players are most unlikely to be in the PL in a few years - they will be trusted to hold their own at 19/20/21 y o because they have the physique to cope.  That’s why we are seeing these guys ahead of some of the ones we know are better players. Of course, we may have seen braybrooke tomorrow on the bench had it not been for the youth cup tie.

I won't disagree with any of the points that you make. Indeed I rely on your opinions entirely when it comes to youth and up-and-coming players. I am just rather surprised by the physicality comment as it is totally at odds with the perception of our first team:- we are known throughout the premier league as the team with the LEAST physicality - indeed we are seen as absolute pushovers on that side of the game. Interesting?!

We can only lose this they can’t win it
and the way we lose it , would be to play across the the back and play backwards , and as sure as night follows day we will get caught out or fall over the ball and gift them 3-4 goals

Let me get this straight.

If we lose don't they win. !!

I don't know if it's just how it's panned out but VDC, Brunt and Flynn are going to have been the last 3 new academy players to have started games for us when technically and in terms of prospects they are very down the pecking order in ability and stature. Suppose it just highlights how many injuries we've had in defence that we aren't experiencing in central midfield where most of our talented youngsters are stacking up.

Potentially a case of shop windowing? Could make them easier to get rid of in the future if they’re seen to have “European” and 1st team experience, maybe?

Irish pub in Randers.

"What colour shall we do the background?"

"What's their most popular kit from the mid-90s that was only worn about 3 times?"

"Ohhhhh they'd ****ing love that"

Haha that is a good point but look at the profile of our players and its not so much a lack of physicality but a lack of aggression and mentality to want to embroil in to a win at all costs attitude

Of the youth players that have come through, only Chilwell, Thomas and Barnes have played regularly under the age of 20. KDH has openly said he was not considered due to a lack of physicality which he didn't develop until much later on. I get it, skill gets you so far but you need the robustness as well, I suppose what I'm viewing with some of the players coming through is I see very little skill as well as strength but then again what I will say is some players get to a point where U23 level is beneath them and they actually suit 1st team senior football better which may well be the case with Flynn so I'm most certainly not writing him off.

Are we already starting to write the fella off before he's made his first team debut?

Not at all, wish him all the best just an observation on the types of players that get opportunities from our academy.

I've just looked at Rodgers record at Liverpool and its a similar story there. Sterling aside the only players that got games for Rodgers were defenders. As soon as he departed Klopp blooded a lot of academy players in games so it was clearly a change in approach.

I would love us to win a European competition..

I don't get the pov that whatever it takes to be rid of Rodgers is worth it.  For me the best case scenario is for Rodgersto turn it around.

Excuse my positivity bit although this season hasn't been great, there's another season to follow full of possibilities.   I would like to approach that season with a European trophy.

I just think it would be ****ing hilarious that our worst season under Rodgers could result in us winning our first major European trophy. And say what you want, it's the least major but has effectively replaced the cup winners cup.

Yes ****ing please.

More chance of us going down than winning the Europa Conference IMO

Said it before but when there was three European competitions, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea didn’t dismiss the Cup Winners Cup as tinpot. They happened to win, extend a legacy of achieving at least something and in the case of all three clubs created moments their fans still waffle on to about now.

Because that latter thing is precisely what being a football fan is about. Living the moment.

Even well viewed clubs such as Arsenal have only ever achieved two European trophies.

I'd love.to tell my grandkids about when we won in ****ing Albania of all places.

That is some mad shit.

And my opinion is that there's more chance of is winning this cup than going down.

Gotta be honest, I think my opinion is happier 🤣

I think we should concentrate on not being relegated, there's virtually no chance of winning this with the club's that are still in this competition.

On current form we're probably about 5th best team in the competition.

We were the 4th best in the fa cup semi finals!

There was more chance of us being relegated in 2015/16 than winning the PL. But strange shit can and does happen.....

Especially if you support us :scarf:

It was always on the cards that we would have a stronger finish to the season given our injury situation and likely return dates. If we get a good win tonight maybe more people will believe this.

Should we acknowledge that winning by less than two clear goals is a poor result tonight.

Progression to the next round is a certainty. No injuries and no over exertion  is the only goal tonight
