FWIW, Opta had us "losing" on xG by only 1.2 - 1.7.

Even as an xG proponent, I think this shows the danger of using it as a statistical "last word" about a single match.

We fluffed our three biggest chances (Barnes, Iheanacho, and Justin interfering with the latter), so I think two of those didn't even result in shots?  But would have been high-xG shots.  I'd agree that overall we created chances as good as Brentford's.

Yes, we scored from less likely chances -- because two players of real quality made the most of them.  Madders scoring that free kick surprised nobody.  Kasper saving (high-xG) attempts from point blank is no surprise either; it's what he does best.

We have "lost" on xG in the overwhelming majority of our PL and European matches this season.  In the "xPoints table", only Wolves and Arsenal are exceeding their points in the actual PL table by more than us.  https://understat.com/league/EPL/2021

Wolves are starting to run out of luck.  I don't think we will, because I don't think we've only been riding luck, and we will have more of our defense back in April and May than we've had all season.

And to repeat myself, 0.75 of their Xg was from mbeueno’s header and the follow up which wouldn’t have counted because it was offside.

If you are going to use Xg (and I’m not against it), you need to have seen the game for context. Otherwise it’s a very broad based tool, and probably only useful to analyse over a stretch of 10/12 games.

Great run from JJ and deserved to have a shot at the end but ffs lol

He never got himself the right side of the ball. It was always kind of behind him. It may have been better to leave it for Kelechi but after a great run its understandable he took the shot.

It’s appalling communication- nothing else

it summed up our attempts to kill the game off ….

Very interested to see if we do. Was it a ploy to have an emptier box and allow us room to defend and track men? Or was it because Brentford have had their pants pulled down on the counter from corners before (play off semi the great example)?

...you do not leave players back so far to prevent counters!!!

We are a team that packs the box, to push three up the pitch would have come from us.

One of the pleasing thing is JJ seems to be just as dynamic as he was before his injury almost straight away, it took Ricardo ages to get that back.

I thought he was outpaced a couple of times which was a bit concerning but perhaps the player he was up against was just quick!

given that he’s already had one hamstring strain post return, he might be just holding back that bit on going full pelt …..

Oh agreed, but don't know if we pushed those players forwards because of our opposition.

Yes I thought he's lost 1/2 a yard.

Though maybe it's as you say he's still getting back to full  match fitness levels.

Ricardo seems to be struggling a little also.

Let's hope they are both flying again for next season .

It may have been a ploy as suggested to keep their bigger players from flooding our box.

Which gave us a better chance to deal with the rest at Crosses and corners. It seemed pre planed so credit to the Coaches.

The only one I noticed was first half for their chance which Kasper saved, but thats maybe because I sit that side.

But felt that was more down to his starting position.

I'd imagine his not 100% match fit
