Absolutely delighted with that win. Don't forget most of the team played a really tough French side on Thursday night, 60 odd hours ago! Brentford had the week off and we still won. I forgive the tiredness in the second half, that was a distinct possibility. But we managed to get the win and get Tim and Johnny back from injury.

Shout out to Nampalys, Cags and Nacho too, I thought they performed really well through the whole game and we needed some to do that today.

And on the back of 4 games in 11 days

First half we were fantastic. Second half we came out a shadow of ourselves. We seemed like we had already thought we’d won the game. Two fantastic goals that you could watch again and again. Great performances from Schmeichel (Get rid lol) who made some amazing saves to keep us in it and Mendy who I thought was brilliant today, I just wish we could morph him and Wilf together.

Amazing to have Evans (Soyuncu almost instantly turned into a better player) and Castagne back, gives a boost to the rest of the squad and the fans. Felt a bit sorry for Iheanacho who did pretty much everything right apart from score.

We made it hard work for ourselves in the second half and the goal was avoidable, hate how easily we seem to be able to switch off in the manner that we do.

A win is win, there’s nothing worse than going into an international on a defeat. Time to get the lads a bit of R&R and get ready for that final push.

Spot on!

Agree totally with your Soyuncu observation. It was like he remembered what to do.

I love how Mendy tries to move the ball forward. He’s a great player, unfortunately finding himself in the same team as Wilf.

One of Nacho mans best games today...as a lone striker that is. His hold up play was great.

Promising signs - nice to see us trying to do something different by leaving 3 up at their corners.

With Wilf now out, Mendy plays when we have most of the possession and I would have Amartey CDM if we need to break up the play - anything to keep him away from RB.

Thought that leaving three up at corners was a good ploy. More room for Kasper to come and claim the ball (although he didn’t) and kept some of their lanky streaks of piss out of our box

Has nacho been training with usain bolt or were their defenders running in treacle ??

He got past Pinnock a couple of times and you could see his eyes light up when the ball came his way because he knew he had him on toast. Just a shame his finishing was 2017 Nacho not 2021 Nacho.

LOVED keeping 3 up top at corners. Worked a treat and you could see the obvious confusion from their players not knowing where to go when they'd clearly rehearsed how to do us over at set pieces.

For those with a view on it, I’ve started a debate on the corners tactic in the tactics thread …….

Every season a team finishes like a train. Could be us with players returning.

I'd love that to be the case but we've not yet proven that the returning players will stay fit or that others won't get injured at the same frequency as we've seen for over a year now. Plus we've a minimum of 13 games (maximum 16) in 2 months.

Totally agree but surely one of those 3 has to be Mendy ????

First half was really good, second not so great though if Iheanacho had finished that superb run to make it 3-0 I think it's a lot more comfortable. Glad to get a break now on the back of some good league form and being in the top half.

Castagne's goal was a peach and a great free-kick from Maddison, goals worthy of winning any match. Schmeichel made some terrific saves in the second half as we lost composure and possibly tiredness crept in but we saw it out.

Shout out to Mendy who I thought had a very tidy game in the middle and was playing some lovely passes at times. Hopefully Ndidi's injury won't impact us too much if he can play like that.

Dewsbury-Hall had loads of holes in his socks. What's gone on there?

Quite a few players do it, just relieves tension on the calf muscle I think

Remember the Great Escape Ric. Remember how impossible that was!

Im not saying It’s easy... in fact, look at my Bet 365 history to see what I know? but, there’s a little tickle in my nether regions. I had it when we did the great escape. Anyway, maybe just hope? But, at my age,...I’m glad of the little tickle I guess?:revenge:

Do they? First I've ever seen it.

Spot on! Does not offer much (or as much) defensively, but certainly helps keep that midfield flowing

I would rather Mendy in all games over Ndidi except a game against giants like Burnley when we lack height.

I think Mendy’s defensive contributions are understated too. His ability to help the team out of the press and move forward to opposition to opponent’s half is in itself a much better defensive strategy than sitting back and inviting the pressure which unfortunately Ndidi contributes towards. We have all said it so many times this season: we go sideways and backwards too often and as a result invite so much pressure and so many mistakes this season. Attacking or at least  playing further upfield is the best form of defence.

To leave up top? Disagree. We had the right balance of players of the three we left up.
