And when the One great scorer comes,

To write against your name,

He'll write, not that you supped a bit,

But you were "BEST in our beauiful game".

RIP pal. Heaven will need a bigger ground. :):):):):)

RIP George

A true legend who unfortunately I never got to see play, but he will be missed. As said before

Gone, but never forgotten

Noone's saying he deserved to die, people are saying they have no sympathy for his condition. There is a difference.

Did you ever see him play Lisa?

Did you ever walk across Walnut Street bridge and shiver with excitement at what you were about to witness?.

There was Beatlemania and there was BEST.

Same effect, different stage.

Ultimate, inimitable, entertainment.

How he played was how he lived -- at full throttle in the most brilliant limelight.

And we who were there LOVED EVERY MINUTE :):):)

I for one would never wish to devalue one minute of his memory by acknowledging the undoubted truth - that he had the flaws of untold millions of human beings once he left that pitch. I shall just remember the joy of his unfettered, mesmeric, football.

RIP

Just wish he could have changed his ways after the liver transplant and he would still be with us today and we could have seen more of him on Soccer Saturday.

R.I.P. George Best.

I'm undecided here - on one hand he certainly was one of the greatest footballers of all times, on the other, a complete prankster.

Anyway, nobody deserves to die (too early).

Undoubtedly in footballing terms, this man was once a genius.

I only saw him once when he played at Filbo in a friendly (for Hibs I think) - He was rubbish.

He reminded me of a punch drunk boxer coming back for one fight too many.

Unfortunately, his later years were ridden with bad press and sadly that's how I'll remember him. We all have decisions to make in life and he made his. We all have to face up to the consequences of our decisions, he has now faced the ultimate consequence.

I do not feel sorry for him one bit, he knew where his lifestyle would lead. My thoughts however are with his familyand friends, they have watched the process from close up and have been helpless to alter it's direction. This must be a terrible terrible day for them.

I think one of the reasons I'm so upset about this is because of Soccer Saturday, I used to watch him week in and week out. He had a great knowledge of football and said it how it was.

Totally agree there, I took REAL notice of what he was saying unlike some people they have. You could also see that he was a real, and you could go so far as to say 'shy' bloke.

RIP

Could not believe some of those posts. I gave up reading them after that W.A.N.K.E.R one. Are they always like that on there?

Added to the condolance thread.

Watching his tribute on BBC1......what a player. RIP

It wasn't on the documentary but my lasting memory of Best's last hours will be the sight of the great Denis Law with tears streaming down his face after seeing his old friend for the last time.

Two things that have struck me, one we shouldn't feel sorry for him he lived his life the way he wanted to.

Secondly from a football perspective watching the highlights of his career what struck me the most was, not his undoubted ability as I saw that live and can still remember with fondness Best, Law and Charlton before ManU became arrogance personified, but I digress what struck me most was how he stayed on his feet in spite of being clipped and fouled as a result of his skills

If only there were more players like that around now :(

It certainly seemed like Best had remarkable balance, especially considering how quickly he moved and how many twists and turnss he made.

Not just balance he wasn't a cheat like so many are today!

Indeed. Best knew the meaning of football...to entertain and he certainly did that through his carrer.

I think we should just be sad that a footballing legend has passed away, regardless of how he chose to live his life and not forget that he has a relatively young son and an elderly father and family grieving this morning.

I agree.

Although i'm slightly miffed by the reaction of the press, anyone would think the King of England

had just died!!??

Prince Charles is the nearest thing we've got to a King of England - or Tony Blair by his attitude. Who the hell would give a damn about either? Excluding close family and friends of course.
