Yeah, one of my favourite threads. Would preferably like it’s appearance a little earlier in the season but that can’t be helped.

so one of 3 places gone, makes things slightly more comforting for us

Love this thread. Set up a spreadsheet a while ago waiting for this to start rolling...

Yes I know I should have better things to do with my time 😅

Watford almost can't catch us either. They'd need a massive +30 swing on goal difference to overhaul us.

Still, points on the board are the name of the game here.

Leeds win last 3 matches and we lose all last 4, they get us

We loose 3 and draw one, only a 28 goal difference cushion in our favour...... and Southampton last game

Leeds ain’t gonna beat Chelsea or Brentford. We’ll also fold to Chelsea.

If we can’t beat Norwich at home, we deserve to go down.

Essentially we need another point to be safe. When you saw Everton yesterday and Leeds in the second half v Arsenal you could see the desire and support so I'm not taking anything for granted.

Will next season be number 8 in a row for us in the top flight?

Edit - realised its 9. Though to be fair Palace will be on number 10 in a row next season!

Yeah next season is 9, we’ve only twice in our history had longer runs of continuous top flight football and 12 is the record I think, late 50s and through the 60s.

Bloody hell it’s taken a lot longer to add to this list than I thought it would but finally welcome Leeds and Burnley:

1. Norwich City

2. Watford

3. Leeds United

4. Burnley

We are staying up!!!

Everton almost there too, just a huge swing in goal difference that would stop us staying above them at this point. Brentford up next for them too, who are in pretty decent form, Man United result aside.

I think 10-12 years is one of the most dangerous points, these days. By that stage, you've been up long enough that you're used to it and have developed a club structure built around taking top flight for granted. If you stumble, you really stumble.

Southampton, Leeds, Stoke, Sunderland - look what happened when they dropped.

Yeah, our 3 longest spells in the top flight are now:

1. 1957-1969

2. 1925-1935

3. 2014-2023 (at least)

The list keeps growing now, welcome Everton (Are you watching @weller54) That’s 50 quid you owe me! And Southampton to the list. The list could well grow further before we play again.

1. Norwich City

2. Watford

3. Leeds United

4. Burnley

5. Everton

6. Southampton

12 years is our record, that's chuffing tragic.

That 9 years has disappeared in the blink of an eye hasn’t it. Great memories along the way.

Also our most successful periods

1929 we finished 2nd in the 1st division

Between 57 and 69 we made 5 cup finals, winning 1 league Cup

I thought 96 to 02 would be our most successful period, but the last 9 years really has surpassed everything.

Still time for more!

Nice to see this list growing over the last few fixtures, and hopefully Newcastle join the list tonight. Even a draw for them against Arsenal and they can't catch us.

£2.2million extra for us for every name on the list so continuing our recent flurry of goals and results against Chelsea (unlikely) and Southampton (hopefully) is most welcome. Given Wolves' final game is against Liverpool, assuming they lose that and we pick up another win without a bruising defeat in the other game we should catch them too.

Basically guaranteed top half now unless there is a massive swing in goal difference on the final day

1. Norwich City

2. Watford

3. Leeds United

4. Burnley

5. Everton

6. Southampton

7. Aston Villa

8. Crystal Palace

9. Newcastle*

10. Brentford*

*We are on 0 GD, Newcastle on -19, Brentford on -7, both would need to win big, and us to get battered

Almost, certain of a top half finish now and a win against Southampton should get us 8th place which isn’t too bad at all for us having a poor season.
