Mock Barnsley 10k today with a group from my gym. I ran it in 3 stages, comfortable over the first 5k which was largely downhill, put my foot down but at a pace I could manage for 3k back up hill, and then the final 2k at threshold. Honestly don't think I've ever felt as strong or enjoyed my running as much as I am at the moment.

57:25 according to my watch, not official yet.

Not unhappy with that given that I've not really trained for it and feel like I've got a cold coming.

Probably should have done a bit better as managed a strong sprint finish which I'm sure looked absolutely ridiculous so far back in the pack and suggests you've not planned your race well

How was it? Up early for that run mate, although wise with the heat.

Just done a 23km myself at 4:57 kmph average. Which I'm happy about that about matches my best half marathon about a month ago. The elapsed time was slower though by about 7 mins (elapsed splits 5:25) because I have to stop for water breaks, and I'm trying new routes so pausing for a few seconds to see where I am 😂 Also the warmer weather is making me often desperate for a piss, must be the weather because it wasn't happening before 😂

So yeah reasonably happy considering I did 11km intervals yesterday. Think I could break my own record if I have significant rest before and also not as warm 😂

It was a major achievement and good experience if I do get any ideas of doing a full marathon (it's inevitable).

Pace was kept steady at 9min 40 per mile which is a good 1min 30 more than my half marathon race pace but after 15 miles (my previous furthest distance) it was unchartered territory and a major challenge.

Got it done though and was exhilarating at the end, over 3 hours running is a big test to the body even when easing off the gas.

Hopefully put me in good stead for Bosworth half in a month and the week after the 5x5km run rabbit trail race in Corby.

23km at that pace is immense pal. My target half marathon pace is that and I can do 17km at 4.57 pace but the last half marathon I fell apart back stretch and ended up a few mins short of 1hr 45.

Decent that is mate.

Gonna try and do 30k in the next couple of weeks time permitting. Last time I did it my legs collapsed after 20-23k and I fell off a cliff. I did 20 then 25 inside a few days so the 30k was basically a step too far, that was back in January. My favourite distance is definitely 15k or 10 miles, after that I get a little bored and feel the need for a drinks break etc.

54.15 in my first 10k today at Leicester Big 10k. Was aiming for anything sub-56, so am happy with that.

Looking forward to trying some other events now.

Yeah the more I get involved in this, the more I realise I like anything between 10km and half marathon. Don't think that will change either.

Ran Stockholm’s park run on Saturday. Trying to hold off some bloke behind me, had to go in a sprint, hamstring went ping three steps before the finish line.

Commiserations to hearing you're joining me on the injury bench.

Trying something new with marathon training this week - trying to hit the length targets but not in one solid go. Instead, splitting them into shorter and faster runs.

Managed 5k in 26:08, which I'm calling 26 min to account for crossing 2 roads and dodging people. Goal achieved!

4 miles in 35 mins, overall.

Overall aim is to get as close as I can to 4 hours for my marathon. Might be ambitious for a first time.

Just done my 1st ever 10k. Really happy with how consistent my splits were. It was pretty much dead on 5.43 per 1k for the whole thing. Finished it in 57m 20s. Buzzing with that!

I've ran that distance probably 30 times and you're still quicker than my last couple!

Really enjoyed a 15k along the canal this morning. I went to the KP and back to Glen Parva in what felt an easy pace but still set my 15k PB :D

How do the timings work on ParkRun?

The time you’re given must account for the time you get your bar code scanned?

So if someone coming in behind has your barcode on their phone, you’ve got to wait for them to come in before scanning and being given your time?

I've not done it for ages but I think you're recorded as you come in and it doesn't matter what order barcodes are scanned, as that's basically just linking individuals to the positions they came in, if that makes sense

Once you enter the finish funnel, timekeepers record your position and finish time then you’re given a finish token - the token crew are at the end of the funnel. You stay in order, take a token and then go and get scanned. Even if the person with your barcode finishes after you, your finishers token will record your finish time. I sometimes get my barcode scanned 10 minutes after I’ve finished as I’ve gone to meet the child or made my mileage up and my time is still my finish token time.

It’s also worth noting that your time is from when they say go and not when you cross the start.

I hope that makes sense!

Yeah cheers

Made the mistake of starting too far from the front today so can definitely deduct 30 seconds or so

I’m always cautious of overestimating my ability and normally end up cursing myself for starting too far back! This is why I like Conkers as you line up in approximate finish times.

I’m on about the Sense Valley one, so just down the road!

Yours is pretty hilly I’m told
