5 sub rule....could it work in our favour?

Thinking about the 5 sub rule this morning and it dawned on me that it could really work in our favour especially with the midfield 3....we have so many players in that area - Tielemans, Soumare, Ndidi, Mendy, Praet, KDH, Maddison that we could almost change the 3 at half time every match and keep players fresh and involved.....thoughts?

Hmm I thought our problem was we had too many.

We have a 25 man first team squad as it stands, Thomas is U23 so doesn't count.

Numbers are inflated by having Hirst, Wright, Eppiah and the Thai lad( Injured with ACL) all of which unable to play for U23s next season.

We have something like 32 players whom qualify for it.

Jupkovic, Kasper and Lashabela have all left which takes us to 29 - 25 first team and 4 "youth"

Kasper and Jupkovic will need replacements though - most likely Iversen and a new third choice.

Iversen is already in that 25 man first team squad, so only Jupkovic would need replacing taking us up to 26 unless we leave out Bertrand.

I can’t see Bertrand being included in the squad - however, with Ricardo’s injury you never know. But if it’s a choice between Wright and Bertrand I’d take Wright every day of the week

It's quite funny that often "argh yet more things that benefit the top greedy elite so called big 6!!!" are to our advantage as well

Having 3 strikers of the quality we have is a bonus with 5 subs but you need the right supply line and what we lack is attacking and creative midfielders and wingers.

5 subs should hopefully allow a youth teamer or two some minutes if games are decided when the inevitable injuries hit and they are named on the bench.

Seeing how often Brendan subbed our midfield last season during an insane run I can't see that happening.

 

It does mean we can switch formations easier with 5 subs and the players we have.
