Exactly.

 

As well as them getting larger in terms of regularity and ferocity year on year.

Indeed. It's certainly the only place we've ever lived with an escape plan that potentially doesn't really work. Burning mountains behind our house and 300m from the beach which only works as a short term escape until the smoke gets us.

 

We house sit in a beautiful villa in the Algarve hills over the summer and that one scares me a bit too. No real escape route, and not many years since many residents burned to death in their cars trying to escape a fire
