(There's a lot more to do with it than the style, maybe the oil money, maybe buying up any player that poses a danger, threat or competition to them only to put them on the bench and waste their career...)

I could not agree more with this sentence.

Showing these too much respect will be our downfall in today's game.

Starting with a back 3 is precisely that.

I always feel it has potential with the wing backs pushing forward to create more opportunities and overlap with Madders and Barnes allowing them to cut in and penetrate the box directly.

He's just chucking in Soyuncu so that when he struggles having not played all season, in a new back 3 and against Man City, he can use it as an excuse to not pick him again.

My sons team was in a tough game a few weeks back (he's only 10). He is playing central defense. He had a decent game, some good blocks and he booted the ball away most of the time. He got subbed when it was 0-0, and the replacements then decided to start playing out the back with the goalkeeper. Gave the ball away and gifted the opposition a simple goal. They then did it again soon after and we lost 2-0.

I hate what Man city have done to the game, and you will see the after effects for years!

...that is not down to Man. City really is it!!!

That is down to coaches who do not have a mind of their own, following a style, they themselves do not fully understand or can coach. If you are an aficionado of the sport, it is a joy to watch when played correctly,  but it does not mean it is for everyone.

Any coach worth his salt should see this as a great opportunity to overcome a problem,  not attempt to emulate it or sit back and admire the process.

It'll be good to see Cags, just for old times sake, but I get the feeling we've handed over the midfield. KDH is going to be run ragged.... but then that's what he does.

Is this a sensible approach? Knowing full well that we can't compete in the middle with them so mounting a rearguard action.... I can see the logic even if it is seen as negative (realist?) We'll see. Vardy's going to be run ragged too.... but that's what he used to do.

The kids copy their hero's mate. In under 10's they have one coaching session a week. No amount of exclamation marks can hide from that. The amount of 'Siuuuuuuu' goal celebrations i saw last season was gut wrenching.

...are you saying the kids decide the way they wish to play and the coach has no input!!!

Why do you like to attack me people so much?

Your habitual use of the laughing crying emoji coupled with your gramatcal prowess, is devastating

Errr, it was a clearly lame attempt to amuse you, as you previously said you chose your handle cos your apostrophe key was missing... As i remember.. Maybe l'm wrong, but l apologise if l upset you bud,  not intended.

Haven’t we generally got results  by playing deep and breaking on them ?  If we make it a ‘game of basketball’ then surely we lose ??

The last couple home games we’ve sat back and challenged them to break us down and been done 1-0 ?

the last two away games have been much more open and turned into goal fests

id expect us to be pragmatic, given our position.

Good points,

But my main reasoning was if we sit deeper to deny them space at the back, currently our defensive 'frailties', for the want of a better word, which are still there and haven't gone away over night, (yes we are better, but let's be honest other posters have stated as well as myself that the calibre of opposition helped somewhat here)  won't be able to hack it against a team like Man City, or to be honest any of the other better teams we have adopted this approach with.

We just can't invite the pressure this set up of sitting deep would probably put us under.

Allowing them to play their football in our final third is a recipe for a beating, they are the true world champions, gold standard, benchmark etc etc at playing pragmatic "BendanBall" but unlike us it suits their players and overall team to a tee.

We absolutely cannot go toe to toe with them with this set up and this is the style Pep will send them out to play in.

But...we can play to our strengths of quick pressing, attacking football, which past results in this and other seasons  have shown works better for our skillset of players and team overall.  This is still my number one bug bear with Todgers as even after 3+ Seasons he still can't see or or is willing to accept this is our best 'MO'

I and numerous others posters and fans that I've spoken to at the ground adopt this stance as well, surly we can't all be wrong. Our past history of results and video footage playing this way would suggest not. Hence the reasoning behind my post.

Err no - i made a flippant comment about u10's football. Everyone who helps does so in their personal time, and coaches have very limited time with the kids. Kids copy the good (and the dubious) things that their hero's do, including adopting Man City's style of play when they largely do not have the skills to do so. It wasn't really a serious comment, and with 10 mins before this game starts there are far more things to worry about right now.

It appears we have had a miscommunication....again.

To me that emoji is used a lot to express sarcasm and as both times you used it with me...... and also with other posters... it was accompanied with seemingly pendatic corrections, I took it as being abusive

However,  in light of your reply I thought I would sit up, type with 2 hands,  compare my perception of crying smiley face with google and then reply in one

1st  Urban Dictionary

Cringy emoji that peasants use to pretend to laugh at something when in reality they are absolument not laughing and are fake as ****. Extremely cringy.

2nd, dictionary.com

The emoji can help lighten tone. Writing for Scientific American in 2016, Krystal D’Costa explained: “Much in the same way the Like button helped to confirm status and connections, the tears of joy emoji can be connective.” Face with tears of joy, D’Costa continued, can show empathy, soften emotions, lighten remarks, and facilitate communication.

While the face with tears of joy emoji generally has positive intent, it can also be used to mock or gloat over others’ misfortunes, as if laughing maniacally in their face.

Well, even emoji lexicographers cant agree..... so what chance do 2 peasants like ourselves have to avoid mix ups?

So Mr J.James, apologies for my confusion and thank you for for taking an interest in my posts, not many do.
