Really hope we show them the way to play football.

I have my doubts with Pep being Rodgers idol and them being peas in a pod in the way they see how the game should be played, but Rodgers does seem to be being abit more pragmatic in recent weeks and he has done it against Man City in the past, we've seen it before under Rodgers when he's been under pressure playing a pragmatic way only for him to revert back to his way, his philosophy and the way thinks football should be played - it's coming.

Fucking hate Man City and what they've done to the game creating possession obsession, creating cliches of the way the game should be played being rammed down our throats and 95% of teams trying to mimic it only for it to be godawful, it's effective for Man City (There's a lot more to do with it than the style, maybe the oil money, maybe buying up any player that poses a danger, threat or competition to them only to put them on the bench and waste their career...) the sooner other clubs realise its detrimental and ineffective to themselves, opposed to ultimately playing to their own strengths rather than following a style, the better - This is on other clubs as much as what Man City have caused, as I say, it's effective for them.

My sons team was in a tough game a few weeks back (he's only 10). He is playing central defense. He had a decent game, some good blocks and he booted the ball away most of the time. He got subbed when it was 0-0, and the replacements then decided to start playing out the back with the goalkeeper. Gave the ball away and gifted the opposition a simple goal. They then did it again soon after and we lost 2-0.

I hate what Man city have done to the game, and you will see the after effects for years!

:appl:Let's hope this prophesy comes true. 'frosty lunchtime' that's pushing it a bit though, it'll be around 18 degrees

But booting the ball away most of the time will not aid your son’s development as a player. The game has evolved

I count the 1-0 defats as results !

To be honest I didn't realise the 2 1 win with Ricardo's screamer was in 2018!

Didn't think it was that long ago but it really was 😮

Stain on the game.

You’re literally inviting pressure upon yourself with the added risk of a making a mistake making it even easier for the opposition. It’s beyond me.

Unless you do it well - in which case you find yourself attacking with overloads - that won’t happen if you just boot it long to make possession a 50/50 ….

teams have to work out if they are capable of doing it well. u10 where the results counts for nothing (as no tables) allow for young players to develop the capabilities to do it well without the jeopardy.

Also winning a game between 10 year olds is hardly important compared to developing their skills. It’s why English football was decades behind the continent for so long. Young children being forced to play win at all costs football on large pitches and getting berated when they didn’t. Adults on the sidelines living out their football fantasy through their kids. Messi didn’t play a competitive match on a full sized pitch until he was 14.

Whether you do it well or not, it’s boring, but that’s another issue, a moot point.

As I said earlier, it’s effective, for Man City, who go about their business buying every top player in the world who poses a danger, threat or competition to them - which probably has more to do with success rather than a certain style.

For the 95% of teams who try and emulate it, well, they simply don’t do it well on a whole.

We’ve had this debate before, many times, you do realise the alternative isn’t just kick and clap, boot it long.

It’s not one or the other, there are many ways to play football, not just the one the media have brainwashed many people in football into believing.

There lies the problem.

Depends what you think the alternative is ?  If you’re not booting it long then in my opinion, you’re playing with the ball in your own half which i thought was your issue.

if you mean the side to side stuff looking to open up space for someone to get between lines around the centre circle then I’m afraid that’s the evolution of the game. I can’t see that changing although some clubs will inevitably be more Burnley than arsenal ….

So the only forward pass is to boot it long?

Words fail me.

Had a dream last night that we were 4-0 up at half time.

We had a disallowed goal straight after kick off, then scored our first straight after that.

But after the first goal all 3 of Faes, Ederson and Cancelo got sent off. But everyone seemed to miss the incident and TV cameras didn't pick it up either.

Haaland and KDB came on at half time. But then Haaland requested to come off soon after because he couldn't get past Amartey.

We won 4-1 in the end lol

Thanks Brendan! Not going to lie, its a poor standard all around but he is pretty good at putting decent passes in when the opportunity is there. He's just seen Leicester enough effing around at the back to know that's not something he wants to be doing, but the kids who are Man City fans play that way instinctively.

Edit - have to clarify, by booting it i didn't mean playing long, i meant just getting rid when there was attacking danger. Seems to work ok for Faes right!

I’m not convinced Haaland missing out is a beneficial to us as some think. Alvarez is a good player and will be chomping at the bit to make an impression in the Robots absence.

Either way got to defend as a team, apply pressure when we can and take our chances :fc:

Like I said - passing it in your own half is playing around with it - you won’t be able to make a forward pass into midfield to a player who isn’t under pressure unless you move the opposition around by moving the ball around. teams don’t play it side to side for the sake of it - they are trying to release space for someone to get into - if that appears almost straight away then they should use it - but some are so drilled that they do miss it.  Eg - JJ currently has a safety first sideways or backwards pass and misses diagonal and touchline opportunities. I do get the frustration
