A shame that up and coming players weren’t involved yesterday, but maybe RVN see premier league performances as more important after the run of recent loses. Could be that he wanted to try out slightly new systems on the pitch with the first team or reinforce what he’s already been working on with the players that are more likely to be play a part in premier league games. Unfortunately that meant Alves wasn’t in the squad for the FA cup as you would normally expect, 100% means he needs to be on loan and get competitive minutes on the pitch unless injured.

This. We’ll need some of these youth players next year when half the squad has left and don’t want to play another year of championship football.

I agree about playing youth players, but fail to see who’ll want half of this squad? Mads, BEK and maybe Winks, who else?

If we went down we'd probably take hits on a few too.  Soumare would have only a year on his contract so we'd probably take a low fee for him. Vardy will be out of contract. Buo goes back to Brighton.  Daka and Riccy P will also only have a year left so we'd be open to letting them go for next to nothing you'd imagine.  Someone is bound to go for Faes.

Won't be a fortune but can see someone pick up VK for his passing ability. We may also lose one or both of Mavididi/Fatawu.

It’s one thing not naming any in the XI yesterday, I understand the need for confidence for the starting XI.

But to not name any kids on the bench is criminal, we had the game won with 25 minutes to go and trotted out Ayew and Reid. Not good enough.

Agree completely with this. Don’t have a problem with him going strong but to not name at least 1 youngster on the bench is really poor.

I know some sections of the fanbase don’t really care but you have to give these players a chance. Would’ve been perfect situation to give someone 30+ minutes

Have people considered the possibility he’s not good enough?

I personally think he’ll come good but he definitely needs a few loan moves. Can see him being a late developer in terms of being physical enough for the men’s game

People keep crying about him not being given a chance or using the  such a such manager clearly doesn’t use youth and that’s why he’s not playing cop out . Truth is several managers haven’t used him and it’s on record as no real viable loan options have ever come in for him either. He’s  clearly a skilful player and we all love a fairytale but there must be something  missing from  his game  .

To almost quote Jack Nicholson you know nothing of the truth.

He can put on muscle for fun if he wants to. It’s not great for your game though. Also is Winks physical enough? Was Mahrez?

Core strength is tough to see unless you actually view the player in a competitive game. and skill can help you avoid some of the physical contact.  RVN sees him in training so must know the answer to that. disappointing that he wasn’t on the bench yesterday.  Tbh, does anyone know if he maybe has a niggle ??

I’m pretty certain he was niggle free, which is why it was so disappointing.

I will take the 6-2 and move on. Realistically the youth players are currently miles off it

You know this how?

Well, they are - that's the point isn't it, and its not the wrong thing to say so. If they were good enough they would be in the first team.  The goal is to use games like this (or good loan moves) to up their level and get them closer to being ready. You don't get better by not playing.

For a little bit of context here - Sammy Braybrooke (who I thought looked a very good footballer, certainly technically) is currently struggling to get even minutes for Dundee.

The men’s game is a completely different beast to youth football, even at the highest level such as internationals which both him and Alves have played. Both are also coming off the back of arguably the most significant injury a footballer can sustain at a very young age.

They’re clearly both very talented and they may well come through here and be the players we seem to expect them to be. They may also not do. The added pressure and expectation around them (IMO) will only hinder. As we saw with KDH and Harvey Barnes, they weren’t setting the first team alight at 17. The club played the long game with them and in both scenarios it paid dividends. We’re struggling and there’s a clamour for Alves, I get it, but putting him in if he’s not ready might not be the best for him or the club. More than happy with minutes here and there and even the right loan move this January.

I would love to see the youth coming into the team, but we are struggling with players that have played at this level before.

No chance do any of the current youth team come in to make us stronger. Simple as that.

Alves on the bench possibly

I know multiple managers haven’t fancied giving him much playing  time and they all can’t be wrong .

It’s always going to be difficult for young midfielders to get their chance as the position they play in is the heart of any team and the risk for the manager the greatest.

The issue I have is that Alves has been on the subs bench the last few PL games, yet wasn't against championship opposition. 5-2 up after 60 odd mins, it would've been great for him to play 30mins in a dominant team.

It seems like a very strange situation with Alves.

The coaches at the club seem to rate him highly hence the long contract that was handed to him and he looks like a baller who is capable of gliding past players with ease yet he never gets a sniff of real first team action.

It must be really frustrating for him aswell.

Ruud has rightly other priorities and rightly so is focusing on sorting out our first team. We desperately need some confidence boosting and uplift to be able to beat palace & Fulham in our next games.

Alvez & wonga will get their moment they just have to keep working hard and stay patient. I trust our new manager with our young stars.
